I am popping back in for some minor updates and whines on another early Saturday morning. What’s going on? What’s going on? Hmm, a lot, but I don’t want to jinx anything that’s going on.
I spent most of the week hauling wood. Long time readers know my whines about this. I mean, if you go back to the fall of 2001 and 2002 (now both in the archives), you’ll see that I tend to whine a lot in the fall about that kind of stuff. As I’ve gotten older it hasn’t really gotten harder it’s more of a problem of motivation. I mean I’m no more worn out now than I was then, it’s just getting something under my butt to go out there and actually do the work that’s the problem.
I have a working tractor now. The tractor pulls the cart that holds at least four loads of the little red wagon thing we were using last year. We had a tractor last year as well, but uh, no one actually knew how to properly use it then so it went unused. That meant that I was pulling the little red wagon up and down the hill in the snow last year because I didn’t get it done quick enough. I so don’t want to be stuck doing that this year (and it *is* a problem since if it’s below freezing the tractor doesn’t want to start), so I’ve been working my butt off trying to get the existing wood hauled and stacked.
Because more wood is coming.
Yes, you thought it. My father is out of the hospital and he’s back to keeping the basement 85 to 90F. The upstairs has electric heat so all of this wood is for my parents’ wood stove. Since dad’s memory meds are a bit off lately, he’s been keeping it hot down there and forgetting that mom blows a gasket when she comes home to find it a billion degrees. He’s also forgetting how much wood he’s been using and he’s gone through a week’s worth of wood in two days and it hasn’t really been cold. So my feeling is we’re doomed.
So another load has been ordered. Sigh. Just when I was finishing off the last of the previous loads.
Oh well, that’s the retro whine for tonight.
I’m back to work.
