FAQ: WHAT PICTURES ARE AGAINST THE RULES?

WHAT SORT OF PICTURES ARE AGAINST THE RULES?

The Facebook Code of Conduct says that you can’t put up the following things:

  • Pictures that contain nudity (or thongs or the appearance of nudity).
  • Pictures that contain violence.
  • Pictures designed to harass or intimidate other users.
  • Pictures that are copy written that you do not have permission to post.
  • Pictures that are derogatory, hateful, mean, etc.

In some countries these things are okay. You can debate the merits of them all you want but the bottom line is that if they’re reported and taken down, neither the person who put them up for sale or the person who bought them will get a refund.

WELL IT’S NOT MY FAULT THAT I BOUGHT A PICTURE, IF IT’S AGAINST THE RULES IT SHOULDN’T BE UP FOR SALE

You’re absolutely right. In a perfect world all pictures that violated Facebook’s guidelines would be rejected before they go into the system. Alas, we live in a far from perfect world. Owned is based on the use of pictures that people upload to Facebook’s servers (which actually house the photos). Facebook does not approve or deny the pictures before they get on their servers. That means that Owned has no control over what goes up and from time to time you’re going to see things you shouldn’t. If you see something for sale and you know it’s against the rules, don’t buy it. Use the “report” button and report it. Otherwise you’ll simply lose your money once someone else reports it.

IS IT OKAY TO BUY AND SELL PICTURES OF MINORS?

By default, Owned sets the profiles of those under 19 to private. You should not be able to buy their pictures if you’re over 19. However, it’s buggy and some people have the ability to do so. You can’t get banned for buying these pictures, but consider this: there’s negative stigmas attached to buying the pictures. Even if the age of “adulthood” in your country is below the limits imposed by the game, people are going to look at you funny for buying youngsters. So yes, it’s “okay” but you’re going to have to deal with the stigmas involved in owning youngsters. This is never going to change. You have to deal with it and move on.

I BOUGHT A PICTURE OF A MINOR AND NOW I DON’T WANT IT

Disown the picture or give it away as a human gift. You’ll probably take a net loss on it but those are your two options. Owned does not give refunds so you’re going to have to take the hit.

I have pictures of my kids on my (private) facebook profile. Will strangers on “owned” be able to see these pictures? How is it decided what pictures are for sale? Thanks, Nic

The only way private pictures would be available for sale on Owned! is if you selected them yourself and put them up for sale.

This is a bug that a lot of people are getting. The only real thing you can try is:

Pull up Owned, click “Settings” from the OWNED menu. When the profile comes up, click the box that says “Resync data from Facebook” then go to the bottom and click the agreement, then click save.

That should at least refresh the pictures so you can see all that you have.

But again, that part of the game is buggy. :(
