ECWA 1/16 Results by JLIB_HTML_CLOAKING
The East Coast Wrestling Association returned to St. Matthew's Parish in Wilmington, DE on January 16th. The show was scheduled to have many firsts including a LIVE Satellite interview with WWF star, and current ECWA champion, Christian, plus the return to the east coast of Malia Hosaka.

The show opened with the International Mixed Tag Team Match which saw Starla Saxton and Jeff Peterson defeat Malia Hosaka and Draconus in 18:05 with a double pin. The match was outstanding. Malia, who was working with a broken wrist and a blown kneee and Starla worked great together. It was a classic heels vs face match which saw the faces gain the victory.

Lance Diamond then entered the ring to talk about how he was screwed by ECWA and Jim Kettner because he had his tag title stripped from him, while Christian would never get the title stripped from him.

Celebrity Chris Krueger, Commando, Persian Prince, and Boogie Woogie Bear defeated the Soul Brothers, Cowboy Blaze, and JR Ryder in 12:15 when Bear pinned the Cowboy.

Viper and two Menudo clones, entered the ring in tuxedos (most likely provided by the new sponsor, Matthew's Formal Wear:) He started mumbling about JJ and challenged JJ to get in the ring. JJ was not there so Viper and company beat up on another ring crew staffer.

Tommy Golden defeated Sweet Mister E in 10:15. Both worked a solid match but Mister E knew the end was coming when he lost his pants during the match.

Dancin Stevie Richards defeated Scott Too Hot Taylor in another great match. The crowd continuously harassed Scott Taylor's sexual preference by chanting, "You Are Gay". Taylor, always had a great comeback like, "No, I'm not! You are!" At one point, Taylor was preparing for a superkick by mocking Stevie. Each time Taylor stomped his foot, the crowd shouted "Gay".

We then went live to Bethlehem, PA where Jim Kettner was standing by in the locker room for his interview with Christian. The sound went out and transmission was lost but they would try again after intermission.

Intermission saw Malia Hosaka, Thunder, JR Ryder, Starla Saxton, Jeff Peterson, and numerous other ECWA stars out to sign autographs. We stopped by to talk to Malia and purchase an autographed 8x10 (Hey, everyone is a mark for somebody).

Time to try the satellite again. Jim was in the locker room where Christian was sitting. Jim explained the numerous option that were available. He said he didn't want Christian to leave because he would like Christian to defend it, whenever his WWF schedule would allow it. He also discussed the possibility of Christian forfeiting the strap or being stripped of the belt. Christian stood up. The lights went out. The strobes went on. BLOODBATH on JIME KETTNER!!!

As the ring announcer was preparing to announce the next participants, Reckless Youth entered the ring to a huge pop. He screamed at Commissioner Neagle about him not being booked in a match. He talked about how he has laid down in the first round of the Super 8 every year and that this year would be his year. Neagle said, "We'll see if we can fit you into a match."

Inferno Kid defended his Mid Atlantic Title against Twiggy Ramirez in another outstanding match that saw both men go back and forth. At one point, Twiggy had Inferno pinned but his manager, ES Easton was distracting the ref. Inferno regained control and got the victory.

Ace Darling and Storm defended their Tag Team Titles against Mark Shrader and Mike Quackenbush. Again, outstanding as all 4 men hit a plethora of high lying moves. The Shark was eventually beached and defeated.

Viper re entered the ring, still challenging JJ. A second ring crew man was attacked but this time, JJ made the save.

Main event time as Lance Diamond was scheduled to face Glen Osbourne. Lance entered the ring and was soon followed by Reckless Youth. Youth immediately took control of the match. Trying to explain a Youth match can do no justice so I won't try. Viper and his boys run out again. They are soon followed by JJ and JR Ryder. Commissioner Neagle even gets in the ring. During the melee, Youth rolls up Lance. The ref, busy throwing all the other guys out of the ring, didn't see it. Neagle runs over and reverses the roll up. Lance gets the victory and the ECWA Heavyweight Title (the commissioner declared it a title bout).

As Lance stood victorious in the ring, "Welcome to the Jungle" played. On the stage, smoke rose from the floor as the lights flashed. Cheetah's voice was on the mic and he announced that he would be back on February 6th to confront Lance Diamond once and for all.

Next show, February 6 will feature 12 WWF developmental stars. I highly recommend you check out an ECWA show. It's the best Indy out there today.

IPWA CHINCOTEAGUE 1/9/99 by Kevin Carson from Jeff Amdur ( JLIB_HTML_CLOAKING )
I wasn't there to ring the bell; but I have the results of the Independent Pro Wrestling Alliance show held at the Chincoteague Center in Chincoteague, VA, on January 9, 1999.  These results come courtesy of Kevin Carson, the "Voice of the IPWA" (as well as being the "Voice of the Washington Wizards" and the "Voice of the Washington Capitals".

Approximately 350 showed up on a cold evening for the first IPWA show in Virginia since September. Four title matches were on the eight match cards and three titles changed hands at the Chincoteague Community Center, Chincoteague Island, VA on Saturday, January 9.

Officials:
Ed Moran, Virginia Boxing and Wrestling Commission
Referee: Matt Griffin (his rookie show)
Time Keeper: MCW's Earl "The Pearl"
Ring Announcer: Kevin Carson
Managers: Vinnie Gambini and SCW's Count Grog

Aside from IPWA referee Barry Roberts, the only other no-show was main eventer Buddy Landel, the IPWA Heavyweight Champion, who was snowed in. He was to face Tom Brandi for the title in the main event. Yet, due to his inability to appear, IPWA acting-commissioner F. Simon Williams stripped Landel of the title and declared it vacant. Tom Brandi, the number one contender, would face the winner of the Battle Royal that evening, to determine and number two contender.

A fine combinations of stars from the IPWA, MCW and SCW. Here are the quick results:

Dan Rage pinned Flex Phenom.

Mark “"The Shark" Shrader pinned "Handsome" Frank Stiletto.

“"The German Beef" Otto Schwanz (w/ Count Grog) pinned "The Bruiser."

Joey "The Future" Mathews won the IPWA Light Heavyweight Title pinning Christian York.

Corporal Punishment emerged victorious in the 15-man battle royal. "The Bruiser" was actually the last legal man in the ring and Corporal exited and re-entered without being seen by the referee.

IPWA Ladies Champion Brandi Wine pinned Foxy Lady in a no DQ match to retain the IPWA Ladies Title.

“"The Real Deal" Chris Stephenson and Big Slam won the IPWA Tag Team Titles by defeating Cue Ball Carmichael and "The Wiseguy" Jimmy Cicero, ending their four-month reign as champs.

Tom Brandi pinned Corporal Punishment to win the IPWA Heavyweight Championship.

The next IPWA event is scheduled for Saturday, January 23, at Woodbridge HS in Woodbridge, VA, featuring King Kong Bundy and Tom Brandi in the main event. For more information, e-mail JLIB_HTML_CLOAKING or call (703) 705-9195.

MCW Glen Burnie 1/7/99 by Jeff Amdur ( JLIB_HTML_CLOAKING )
The very first Maryland Championship Wrestling heavyweight champion became the first two-time heavyweight champ at the MCW card held at Michael's Eighth Avenue in Glen Burnie, Md., on January 7, 1999.  The card was also highlighted by the return to the mat of a Baltimore favorite son, a manager turning on his charge, and the debuts of a couple of independent stars from down south.

Attendance was estimated at 550.  Maryland State Athletic Commissioners in attendance:  PAT PANNELLA, TOM KANARAS and LOU LEAVEY.  Music and sound provided by BIG DADDY PRODUCTIONS.  MCW commissioner:  MR. JACK ADONIS.  MCW publicity honcho: PETE McDEVITT.  Ring attendant: ANDY VINEBERG.  Ring announcer: STEVE VENTURELLA.  Timekeeper at the bell: JEFF AMDUR.  Referees for the evening: BARRY ROBERTS, JOHN RILEY and D. EDWARDS.

PETE McDEVITT and JACK ADONIS greeted the crowd, and announced that MCW had finally found a permanent home where they could put on Sunday night shows for the fans, and that home will be the place where independent wrestling started in Maryland, Teamster's Hall in Baltimore.  The February 7 card will mark the first Teamster's appearance in 14 months for the stars of Maryland wrestling.  It will be quite the homecoming.

In the six-man tag-team opener, AXL ROTTEN (with GINGER LYNN LUCAS) & BRUISER & "DOOMSDAY" DANNY ROSE pinned CUEBALL CARMICHAEL (with JOE COOL) & SHOOTING STAR & MENACE in 5:41.  Menace took a chair shot from Axl, who covered for the pin.  The security staff had to help the semiconscious Menace to the back.  This match marked the first wrestling appearance for Axl ("the people's chairce") in his native Baltimore in several months, and the appreciative crowd gave him a tremendous reception.

VENOM pinned MAD DOG O'MALLEY in 4:52.  The debuting Venom, a star in the Carolina circuit, pleased the crowd as his 283-pound chiseled body gracefully moonsaulted off the top rope onto Mad Dog, covering him for the pin.

JOEY "THE FUTURE" MATTHEWS pinned "WISE GUY" JIMMY CICERO (with PLATINUM NAT) in 6:25.  The stipulation of this match was that the winner would receive for his tag team (Matthews's BACKSTREET or Cicero's THE BALD AND THE BEAUTIFUL a shot at the tag title on the next MCW show.  There were some communication problems early in the match between Cicero and his manager, which proved to be a harbinger of later difficulties when, with the referee temporarily ko'd, Nat came into the ring and looked as if he were ready to whack Joey with his "Good Book".  Suddenly, Nat turned around and plonked Cicero, allowing Joey to cover for the pin and gaining a title shot for BACKSTREET on the next show.

CHRISTIAN YORK defended the MCW cruiserweight title by pinning "THE DYNAMO" SHANNON MOORE, another Carolina-based star, in 12:56, after delivering a reverse power bomb.  Both guys exhibited some nice power and aerial spots during the match.  Some members of the crowd picked up on the fact that the debuting blond-haired youthful Moore resembled the singing Hanson brothers, and were exhorting Moore to whip Christian's butt; but it was York who wound up with the successful defense.

Commissioner JACK ADONIS came out and announced that the scheduled mixed tag match would not take place because one of the participants, CHASTITY, had signed with WCW and was no longer able to compete for MCW.  With that announcement, BOBCAT came out and said she would be glad to team with LANCE DIAMOND against MARK "THE SHARK" SHRADER and DAWN MARIE (whom Bobcat referred to as "Tammy Lynn Bytch, that douchebag").  Shrader came out and announced that since he had been in training, he'd been waking up every morning "at the crack of Dawn" (ahem!), he was willing to take this match.  Adonis sanctioned it, called out a referee and ordered me to ring the bell.

"SUPERSTAR" LANCE DIAMOND & BOBCAT pinned MARK "THE SHARK" SHRADER & DAWN MARIE in 9:35.  The finish was wild, with Diamond scoring a pinfall over Dawn Marie after giving her a back suplex while Shark was busy spanking Bobcat.

In a clusteryouknowwhat of a match, 2-DOPE & SIDESWIPE beat "DANCIN" STEVIE RICHARDS & EARL "THE PEARL" on a disqualification in 10:06.  Because the title can't change hands on a disqualification, Stevie and Earl are still MCW tag team champs.  The match started wild, as the four combatants came out of the back area fighting each other up the entranceway.  JOEY MATTHEWS and PLATINUM NAT interfered, with Joey grabbing one of the title belts and clobbering Sideswipe by mistake.  The referee thought it was intentional and disqualified the champs for outside interference.  Joey and Nat then ganged up on Stevie and Earl until a chair-wielding JIMMY CICERO came to make the save.

Earl and Stevie will get a re-match next month with 2-Dope and Sideswipe, and because of the result of the contenders' match, BACKSTREET (JOEY MATTHEWS & QUINN NASH) will also be involved, making it a 3-way tag match.  In a gesture of gratitude to a guy who had been his long-time enemy, Stevie promised Cicero that if they beat Joey and Quinn next month, then Cicero would get five minutes in the ring alone with Platinum Nat.  Mr. Adonis quickly sanctioned all of these stipulations.

In the STUD LEE interview segment for the evening, his interviewees were CUEBALL CARMICHAEL and JOE COOL; but it was Cueball who did all the talking. Stud pointed out that Cueball is treated with respect almost everywhere he goes and that he has been repeatedly a champion in Virginia and the Carolinas; however, when it comes to MCW, Cueball is relegated to opening matches.  This opened up a sore spot with Cueball, who put the blame squarely on Commissioner JACK ADONIS and PR guy PETE McDEVITT.  He said he was disrespected by Adonis when he was not only placed in a six-man match without knowing that Axl Rotten would be part of the opposition, but also that he was given inferior wrestlers as partners.  Cue promised that at the Feb. 7 MCW card, whether he's still with Joe Cool or not, the fans will see a much different Cueball who will foster a reign of terror upon MCW.

In the brawl of the evening, TOM BRANDI (with ROYCE C. PROFIT) pinned CORPORAL PUNISHMENT in 12:34.  Brandi and Profit came out and first apologized to athletic commissioner TOM KANARAS for some off-color remarks they had made at the last show; then Brandi explained that he had been fired from the WWF because "they caught me bangin' Sable".  He also made some remarks about where the head of a certain beloved wrestling legend had been for the last fifteen years.  (Let's leave it at that.)  Mr. Kanaras did not seem to be very amused by those comments.  When Corporal entered the ring, Brandi made some unpleasant remarks about Corp's girlfriend, and Corp attacked Brandi savagely.  The match took place largely outside the ring, along the perimeter and the entranceway.  Referee BARRY ROBERTS had his hands full, as he was continuously pushed by manager Profit.  At one point, Brandi took my timekeeper's clanger and choked Corp with it.  The end came with Profit distracting the ref, allowing ROMEO VALENTINO to set up a chair in the corner for Corp to be slammed into.  This temporarily backfired, as Corp eventually grabbed the chair and set up Brandi for a chair shot; however, Brandi kicked the chair into Corp and covered for the pin, which was counted by the ref who finally turned around after arguing with Profit.

As the main event was starting, MCW champion KING KONG BUNDY announced to the crowd that since he was tired of continuously slapping around ROMEO VALENTINO in title matches, tonight he would win with his famous 5-count rather than a 3-count.  The ref agreed to this stipulation.

ROMEO VALENTINO regained the MCW heavyweight belt from KING KONG BUNDY with a controversial 8:42 pin.  Bundy had Romeo for the 3-count, but as the ref continued for the 5-count, TOM BRANDI arrived to pull the ref out of the ring.  With the ref distracted, ROYCE PROFIT, Brandi's manager, grabbed the championship belt from the ringside table and ko'd Bundy, allowing Romeo to cover for the pin.

MCW returns to action on Sunday, February 7 at Teamsters Hall, 6000 Erdman Avenue in Baltimore, with a 7 p.m. bell time.  The three-way tag match mentioned above has already been signed.  Stay tuned to these boards for further information, and don't forget the MCW 24-hour hotline at 410-234-9769 for up-to-date happenings.

If you live in "MCW country" and want to get on the MCW mailing list, e-mail me your snail-mail address and I will forward it to Pete McDevitt.

From Jeff the MCW timekeeper.
