Much Later ...

So an update on the day: They went to the local hospital. As predicted it took 4 hours to figure out what they're doing with him. Since the entire cardiac care unit was off for the weekend, they admitted him and he'll stay in the hospital until monday for observation.

The Day After

It's the day after Christmas and things are starting with my mom about to take my dad all the way to Wilkes-Barre (2 hours away) to the VA hospital emergancy room. He gets depressed around Xmas and this year he's decided his heart is bugging him so that's the nearest hospital without a massive bill to go with whatever care he's getting. He always does this and well, the whole ride is moot and this is pretty moot as 9 out of 10 times there's nothing wrong with him. So god only knows.

Christmas went fairly well. I managed to avoid dinner by working, dodged my parents' strange friend, and we only had one fight that marred the day. For a lark I looked at camera phones found a deal where we'd get two great ones for free with a service plan. My mom didn't want to even look at them because she didn't wnat to switch our service because she had "no interest" in seeing her picture on a phone. Well umm, k, just don't scream at me to do it.

My stomach is a mess this morning from antibiotics. Looks like my dad won't be going to haircut with me later. I'm still going. He and my mom are debating if they really want to go all that way to the doctor. They may be going to the local one. If it's just an ego stroking, he'll go to the one here, it'll be 6 hours of sitting here then he'll come home with a coke in hand and a big smile on his face like nothing had happened. That's how it always happens when there's nothing wrong.

Can you tell I've been through this before?

The best plan is just to go through the day like I normally do. If there's something wrong, the doctor's will take care of it. If there isn't anything wrong, then he'll be fine. Either way, driving myself nuts about it will either encourage him to do this again (he gets SUCH a kick from going to the hospital -- seriously, he thinks he's a celebrity), or turn myself into him when I get older. I really don't want either option right now.

I'm off to shower. Got a $25 gift card from staples to go use up. Not sure what to get but I'll find something after my hair cut.

Strange days indeed.

Well that was interesting ...

It's been an interesting couple of days.

I had a scare.

Thankfully I had a dermatology appointment scheduled to check it out and he figured out that it wasn't cancer and it will (hopefully) take care of itself with antibiotics and treatment. He may have to remove it and do a biopsy I guess, he's said that was a possibility, but for now the biggest christmas present this year is that he did rule out the C word and that's got me happy.

I mean I know I'm destined for one of two things around the holidays: 1) finding out I had some sort of horrible illness or 2) hitting the lottery/super prize etc. It would be just like my life if the two were related or happened on the same day.

I am listening to "Boom Boom Ba" by a group named Metisse. It was on a lot of the episodes of "Dead Like Me" this year and sort of just got stuck in my play list. Hopefully that's setting the mood for the day. I mean after the past two days of worry I can settle down, relax and say "oh hey, it's going to be okay." But then again I look and have the Kobe Bryant boards waiting for me and the antibiotics make me sick so umm ... yah. My dad's probably going to need wood for the woodstove today too. No. Bad. Bad thoughts. Get them out of here.

It doesn't look like we're going to have a white christmas this year. It's Christmas eve right now and it's 47 degrees out American. The snow has become fog, heavy dense fog and I can see across the street and that's about it out my window. I wanted to go out and get my dad something for xmas today. I mean I gave him his two main presents already (DVDs of the latest Harry Potter and the first season of MASH) but I wanted something to put under the tree. Our tree is totally empty this year (again) and has been empty since the kids left. I sort of can't wait to hear their reactions on the phone to the mountain of presents we sent out. I pick good presents, that's for sure, and hopefully just HOPEFULLY they'll drive my sister nuts with them ... oh I wouldn't be that evil now, would I?

Damn straight.

Anyway, no white christmas this year but I don't mind. Seeing that the last 3 weeks have been snow. I mean a cloud would fart and we'd have another inch of snow. Plane flies too low, cloud developes gas (literally) and a moisture problem and ta-da! 3 more inches of snow!

Ha.

Off to shower now on a high note.

Monday Morning

Monday morning and I'm back at work. I'm clearing off the TIVO on the other machine while things are slow at my "real" job today. Dealing with a member who suddenly claims that not only am I responsible for the pulling of the posts in the board in question, I'm also the person they're fighting with on the boards. Dear god, it's going to be one of those days.

I'm back up to the point where I'll be able to FTP to this site again so HOPEFULLY there will be updates either today or tomorrow. I really have to get into the mood to write. Ugg. Crashed Dreamweaver.

I have to go out and haul wood in for my dad's woodstove later. Double it.

This is going to be a great day.

Let me kill that Kellog's Tiger. :)

Catching Up

After the reformat last week I've been in kind of a funk. A lot of distractions and I really haven't been in the mood to write. So far the day after christmas marathon is off. I just don't have anything this year. I'll probably get back into strips this week but I really have to start to think about storylines and captures and what the hell I'm going to do with them.

Saw Evil James yesterday and we saw "Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King." It was pretty good. I was thankful that our theatre gave us a 15 minute intermission though. I tried a new trick and bought a bottled water instead of a soda. I only had a few sips of it and a lot of nachoes during the first half of the movie. I think I'll do that again next time. I wish I could bring my own water in, the only water I've liked so far is Aberfoyle Canadian Spring Water from Nestle. It's yummy. Good stuff.

After Evil James' place I met my friend Margie-Girl down in Carlisle. We haven't talked in about 6 years and haven't seen each other in 7. Nothing big to that story really, we both thought the other moved. She was a good friend in college and it was nice to see her again. I actually hope to see her again since it was fun. I didn't really know her friends last night but we did have a lot in common that I had forgotten about. It was nice and I seriously mean that. I do wish I lived closer, but really, 2 hours and 15 minutes tops down there, that's NOT a problem for me. I can do that in my sleep.

Oh well, going back to putting stuff back on this computer ...

Beyond Tired

It's the usual day after PPV. I did 10 hours on 2 hours off the clock yesterday. I also shoveled 8 inches of snow and hauled wood. I didn't get a nap and went to bed late. Veddy late. My own fault on that one.

Today? Hopefully today I'll get up to circuit city and get my new drive. I still have 25 gigs to transfer off my old hard drive and onto my main drive here. Last night I transferred files for 3 hours and only moved 14 gigs off to a network computer.

I'm also going to figure out why my tv computer doesn't want to recognize my network. I think the easiest thing would be to reformat. But that's my reaction to everything.

Oh, I still have to dig out the car and the mailbox. I love life.

Right now I'm starting to burn DVDS and I'm getting ready for the "dead like me" mini-marathon tonight. I can't wait. SO can't wait. I'm giddy with anticipation.

But I so don't want to go out there and dig in the snow.

Dammit.

Early

I blew up my external hard drive yesterday. Same error with the new casing. Write delay. It's been doing it for a year now so something's going on with the drive. Of course I was dumb enough to put important data on it, since it *had* been fixed. Well norton disc doctor did a check then promptly hid half the files on the drive. I got 75% back and promptly ordered a 120 gig hard drive (with huge rebate) at Circuit City for in store pick up.

Get in the car. Oh that's right. My mom had the good car. The old car we had let one of her friends borrow for the week. So what car did I get stuck with? Yes, the car that had no heat, had the radio taken out and one of the wheels isn't on properly. I got ten miles down the road when the space where the radio had been started to smoke. I turned around and started back home, that's when the tire started making wonderful sounds as if it were going to fall off. Somehow I made it home.

My plan today was to get up as early as possible and go to circuit city. Instead? 6 inches of snow today (2 on the ground already) and another 6 tonight. I might get there tomorrow. Maybe. God only knows at this point.

Reformatted this computer yesterday. Oh yes, that's where this story was going to go. I should be okay once the new drive goes in. I'll have about 70 gigs free to mess around with and 50 gigs of data ready for it. I just have to move 39 gigs from the existing disk elsewhere until I can put the new disk in. I'm not exactly sure how I'm going to do this but ... you know, after the past couple of days, I can do anything I put my mind to. Why? Because it's going to be a fight and it's going to be a PITA and ...

Oh hell, I'm letting this DVD finish burning then I'm going to go out and haul wood. My dad is actually using *more* wood now that the wood stove is fixed. This is going to be ugly. I don't want to move. There's snow on the ground. I put food out for the birds (who Stef is helping me identify) and most of it is covered in snow. I think that it's kind of neat that they all come to our house for food. But I do think that it's crazy that whenever it's snowing they're out there instead of finding a place to stay warm.

Crazy.

I'm off most of the day so I'm going back to putting everything on this PC. Wish me luck or a life or a beautiful snow angel to come take me away from this misery.

I had a dream I won a trip to Australia last night. Then I couldn't go because the airport was snowed in.

Dammit.

TechTV Sold?

Leo Laporte posted in his blog that he has his doubts that TechTV was sold or is about to be sold or whatever; yet, as Brit pointed out, articles like this one keep appearing on the wire services.

Something is going on.

I agree with him that we'll have to wait it out, but it would be nieve to think otherwise at this point.

Battlestar Galactica

I was a big Battlestar Galactica fan as a kid. I know it was Star Wars' bastard little TV brother, but it had a look and feel that just drew you in. There was nothing to compare with Lorne Greene's opening monologue that ended with "... the shining star known as ... Earth!"

Okay the women were hot, the guys weren't too idiotic and there was nothing cooler to me than the Cylons. One big red eye flashing back and forth. MAN I loved my Cylon action figure. When they advertised the exclusive gold Cylon figure, I remember being SO bummed when I didn't have enough collector's points to get one.

I'm watching the Sci-Fi channel's "reinvisioning" of the series now. It's not as good. I mean it's good, but it's not good enough to draw you in. It feels like "Earth 2," "Space Above & Beyond" or half a dozen other generic space shows and movies from the last 10 years. It's interesting but it's not compelling, it's not space opera, and while I don't feel the outrage that the fan community seems to feel towards it, it sure as heck isn't Battlestar Galactica other than in name.

My antibiotics are kicking in now. Gonna fall over soon.

Tuesday Morning

It's Tuesday morning and I'm freshly back from my 6 month check up with my allergy doctor. I have an ear infection. Not a really bad one, but bad enough to explain why I've been so out of it the past couple of days. He put me on some hard anti-biotics and told me to get some rest. Of course, while I took the antibiotics, the next thing on my schedule is to go haul wood in for my dad. Not looking forward to that, but really feel like climbing into bed and sleeping for quite a long time.

Last night I won a bid for a gamecube on ebay. $138 total with shipping for a black gamecube, 2 controllers, a memory card and a Dave Mierra game. That's a little less than I'd pay for the same things getting them myself. I'm hoping it comes by christmas because I want super monkey ball 2 and mario kart double dash for xmas. Actually, I just want a day post X-Mas where I can go down to evil James' house and we can relive our college days where we'd go to Toys R Us and kill each other on the demos for the original mario kart ...

Was eying a WWF Wrestlefest cabinet on Ebay too, but the shipping alone would be more than the unit. Oh that was a time waster. He'd be either Jake Roberts or Ted DiBiase. I'd always be the Big Bossman or Ultimate Warrior. He'd win a lot more than I would and I always spent more quarters on the machine than he did. That was the first real game with a Royale Rumble mode (more guys come out after the first batch were eliminated). Most of the "modern" wrestling games give you that in limited doses, or like in RAW 2 -- make it so catonic that you don't want to play (throw guy into ringpost, run into him to eliminate him, repeat).

I was actually thinking of getting a PS2 for half a second until I saw that all the auctions were going in upwards of $175 before shipping. Then I'd have to spend another $50 to get the new WWE game. I decided to pass. Just not enough there to keep my attention. I had the same opinion of the Gamecube as well, but dammit, that stupid Mario Kart and Super Monkey Ball ... dammit.

My forums are open (see link below) if anyone wants to comment on this babble. I've also opened a bunch of generic topics just to get the ball rolling.

Oh, TechTV pretty much sold to Comcast. We'll have to wait and see what happens. They're going to merge it with their games channel.

The news stories keep saying what gains they've made in late night ratings. Thank you's in each of these stories should go to Laura Swisher and Morgan Webb's boobs. I should know, those search terms are what keeps this site alive. Without those women on the late night shows showing cleavage, this site probably would have bit the dust some time ago.

Instead, I'm about to put up strip #400 later today. So if ya like the strips you've seen so far or you just want to see new boobie shots of the people of TechTV tell me about it. Forum plug over. :)

I'm out. Got to go haul wood in then fall over.

Saturday Night

It's Saturday night and I'm in the middle of republishing the entire site. Why would ANYONE want to do something like that? Well, sometime in October our guestbook service became a pay service. All guestbooks shut down unless you paid $10 a year. I haven't had time to sit down and find free alternatives until now and I decided to go with a message board style forum instead of a guestbook this time so the conversations would be threaded. So I'm republishing the site to add next year's copyright information and a link to the new forums.

I know hardly anyone will use these forums but everyone is welcome and if you're looking for a TechTV or Reallycoolsite related community to join we've got free space so use it.

My rules are as follows:

1) You're responsible for your own posts. Not me. Don't sue me if someone uses my forum to be a jerk.

2) Any advertising will be pulled.

3) Play nice. I'm not going to play censor but if it gets out of hand I'm shutting down the thread.

I do message boards for a living. I don't have time to play monitor for folks who know better. So be good. Please. :)

It snowed this morning. Something like 3-4 inches. Not too bad. I had the front walk and driveway shoveled in about 20 minutes and shoveled out a path to the wood so I don't kill myself getting wood on monday.

We're getting a new wood stove on monday as well and I'm really looking forward to it. Our old one downstairs is almost 15 years old and isn't the most efficient thing. I'm hoping the new model will put out more heat while conserving wood. Yes, selfishly wishing that we can cut back on our wood order next year so I'm not spending my September moving wood from one end of the yard to the other. Hey, a guy can dream, can't he?

The upload status is somewhere near 1/4th done now. I'm cranking "Lonely Lola Cherry Cola Girl" by Bic Runga on my other machine right now. Find it. Very cool song and fits the evening.

It's cold. I mean seriously cold out there. 20 or 21 degrees F. I put bird food out for the birds earlier and almost froze. We have weird birds out there that I call the woodstocks. Any time it's snowing or raining they're out on our back porch looking for food. This morning, even though it was in the teens, we had a whole soup kitchen of little brown woodstocks looking for food. Not a lot of color out there until the bluejays showed up. Then a flock of crows came into the tall trees behind the house and all the little brown woodstocks went into hiding. Not sure what the crows wanted. They never come close to the house, they just circle endlessly in spots then go across the street and walk in our neighbor's big field.

I think it's kind of neat that the little woodstocks know where to go for food though. We're getting more this year and I'm looking forward to spring when their plumage changes and we get all sorts of colors out there. There's a beautiful little neon blue bird who comes around in the spring. He's not a blue jay. He looks a lot like the other woodstocks except he's a cool neon blue. Sometimes when he comes around with a group of bright yellow birds that literally look like woodstock from Charlie Brown. We get cardinals in the spring, bluejays year round, and some of the brown woodstocks start to sport a bit of red in their crests. I really should figure out how to get a camera out there.

Oh well, I'm off to play Simpsons Hit & Run until the site finishes uploading. Be safe.

All time favorite love song ...

HIDEAWAY
(J. Crawford / C. Sanford)

Cool and so breezy
Take it or leave it
Keeping your distance
Arrows to your heart just bounce away
I see you bleeding
Your sad eyes are pleading
The poison is spreading
So cleanse yourself with tears of salvation

Forget the pain
Hideaway in my arms
Where's the shame
Cry away there's no harm

Lost in a nightmare
Falling through thin air
Faster and faster
Love is getting closer and closer
It's time that you wake up
From haircuts and make up
No need to be frightened
Trust in the love that you dream of

Forget the pain
Hideaway in my arms
Where's the shame
Cry away there's no harm

You'll be my hero
Start back at zero
Throw off your mask
Freedom at last
Trust in a needed friend

Forget the pain
Hideaway in my arms
Where's the shame
Cry away there's no harm

Friday ...

It's Friday morning and I have 16 minutes until I have to go to work. I'm watching "Fright Night" on TIVO and hopefully this time I'm recording it in regular DVD quality instead of my TechTV settings. It's a good vampire movie about a boy who thinks a vampire moved in next door to him and a movie star who has lost his faith. The scariest thing about this movie though is that "Marcy Darci" from "Married with Children" plays the hero's girlfriend and "babe" of the movie.

Deleted "Blue Crush" from Tivo. Was going to watch it but there's no time. I have so many DVDs to burn it's not funny.

I started the day by waking up at 7:45 AM to go outside to haul wood inside. My dad has a problem. He always thinks he needs wood for the wood stove. He had a day's worth down there but I brought him 2 more day's worth before 8 AM so he wouldn't be bitching at me all day.

God, there's nothing like being exhausted immediately after you wake up. I'm spent.

DEAD LIKE ME ALERT: December 15, 8 PM ET, Dead Like Me Marathon & a bunch of the early episodes will be on SHOWTIME.

Hopefully I'll get all the episodes I missed.

Heading to work in a few; the Kobe week is over since they figured out my boss and his boss's e-mail. I spent 35 hours last week answering member complaints. It wasn't good. I didn't get anything done and this week is like heaven because they're not bitching at *me.*

Had a scare yesterday when my computer wouldn't recognize my 2nd hard drive. So I open the case up, take out the hard drive cable and replace it. Somehow I knocked the power cord off of my video card. Not only that, I bent all the pins to connect the power cord to the card. As usual, a 2 minute trip inside the computer case became an hour ordeal as I had to take the card out and bend all the pins back in place. Thankfully, they were long pins.

Everything working now. Though I did end up getting a hard drive enclosure case fedex'd to me. My old external hard drive isn't working right anyway, so I'll use that old hard drive as backup if this works and it's not fried.

Usual Quick Updates

Waiting for my shower water to heat up. It's *cold* out this morning and while it didn't snow this weekend like it should of, it's freezing and it feels like snow.

As you can see, we're back. Almost two weeks ago I worked through my writer's block and I started putting out strips. I know that every strip isn't a winner, but hey, in 9 days now we're going to be onto strip 400 and you try to keep ideas fresh and every strip funny after 400 strips.

I'm kind of in a weird position right now, I'm 9 strips ahead in my writing and I'm working on season 26 and thinking about season 27. While I did get rid of the dumb annual tradition of "Scariest. Strip. Ever." I did do the marathon to support the Call for Help Marathon last year and this year I'm thinking about doing it again.

Oh, I probably won't be writing all of those strips in two days like I did last year, but I think building up to going live on the 26th with 16 strips (then taking a week off) means that I'd have to write 32 strips in 26 days. I know I can do it if I'm motivated ... but god that's a ton of strips. We'll see.

If I decide to do it, you'll see it here FIRST and please spread the word. The last thing I want to do is wake up the day after xmas and only get 6 people reading 3 or 4 strips at best.

Strips are a lot of work. Keeping them "fair and balanced" is also a lot of work. I know I was going for easy and mean laughs for a while, but you can see that our tone has changed and while we we're mean, we're fair and not insulting (well hopefully). Had to write characters one way to get out of last season and hopefully someone gets the fact that maybe 90% of this season takes place from strip #9 of last season until the end of last season. I'm doing it a) because all the stories I could think of fit that time period and b) I felt like I gyped you out of all of those stories that were in the cryptic strips that ended the season.

We'll get around to telling most of the stories in the next few days. It gets weird.

To Do List:
* No more Patrick Hulk
* Resolving Don the Fa Fa
* Find a way to bring Leo back
* Either keep Sarah written off or change her completely
* More fun, laughs and whatever it is I've been doing

STAY TUNED!
