On the Road Again ...

Going out of town tomorrow for my usual long journey. Yes, the vacation is here and I'm trying to get everything I need to do done before I actually run out of time. I'm seriously behind on things right now.

The good news is that I got both my computer room/office and my bedroom cleaned so both rooms are actually looking pretty good right now. The air conditioner repair guy is coming this week and HOPEFULLY he'll fix the unit in my office. It's 2 weeks old and fritzed out last Sunday night. Won't come on at all.

Right now I'm editing the copy of "John Lennon: Imagine" that was on Starz or something last night. It was an interesting look at his life and it's worth catching if you're a Beatles fan. One interesting scene involved Lennon talking to a fan who had decided to show up at Lennon's house. He took great effort to explain to the guy that he's just a guy who writes music, often his songs were nonsense and there wasn't any great connection to anything. Eventually they brought the guy inside and got him something to eat. They said that Lennon felt responsible for his fans since they get all sorts of crazy things from his music. Yes, it was an ironic scene since a fan cost Lennon his life.

Speaking of life and death, I'm an uncle again. Xander Christian Hudson was born last night. Mother (my sister) and baby are already on the way home. Everything is fine and for an overdue baby he sure is getting a lot of attention. My folks are going to meet him at the end of June. Can't wait to see pictures. He'll probably look like my dad's father (like the other two did) but I hear he has a cleft chin! A real life cleft in the family! Coming from a guy who barely has a chin, damn, that's going to be impressive. :)

Finishing laundry, have a world of video editing to do, then will be on the road at 6AM tomorrow. Wish me luck. I sure feel like I'm going to need it for the trip.

Back Up!

Well, as in "back up and running."

I put the 250w power supply in this pc. I've been intending to do it for a week now but I have been too scared to do it. So it's the middle of a thunderstorm a minute ago, I can't do anything else because of the lightning, so I go and decide to play around with electricity.

You wonder how I've lived so long, don't you?

So The power supply is in, it's whisper quiet as they said it was going to be. It's a Shuttle PC400N250EV unit for all the geeks out there who are into these small form factor units. If you have an old Shuttle that can be upgraded like this (check their website), it is well worth the effort. Well, so far anyway. I've had the PC running for all of 11 minutes. :)

I can't get over how much quieter it is. LOL. Sitting here going "damn, that's quiet" compared to the stock power supply. So again, go me. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. :)

The Merger

So for those looking for news on TechTV's impending merger with G4, well the deal is complete and they've launched a website. From that website, here's a handy FAQ listing all the shows that are going to be featured: http://www.g4techtv.com/faq.html

Yes, they're bringing back 'Thunderbirds' yet they've canceled 'Techlive' and 'Call for Help.'

They're also only bringing 80 people out of the 220 in San Francisco over to the new offices. I've had requests to deal with that in a strip and yah, one of these days I'll get to it. I'm taking a break, seeing how things play out, then strips will be back. Like always.

Oh, 'Unscrewed' has a place on the new schedule. So much for those who were saying that the G4 mentality is "For Kids." So the promotion of porn continues! Not sure if that is a good thing, but come on, anyone with big boobs is popular on TechTV and they'd be nuts to let Laura Swisher's boobs go. Yes, I'm saying the "B" word, because that's all the see her as. Boobies = ratings. Boobies = google hits. So boobies boobies boobies all day long.

The usual note, don't ask me for naked pictures. I don't have them.

Dumbass.

I'm calling myself a dumbass with good reason. Yesterday I worked 10 hours and then I got it in my head that I was going to get rid of the dead carpet that we've had sitting on the front porch for ages. It's pretty big and I think we were throwing it out because it was cover in skunk smell (for those that remember THAT story). So I picked the thing up and I couldn't see anything, so I went to turn around and go towards the dumpster when BLAM! I totally feel whatever I've walked into. You can see by my last webcam picture (taken last night) that I have a crescent shaped mark on my forehead now. Yup, a big red welt from smacking my head on a plant hanger.

I probably have a concussion. I was nice and dizzy then nice and lethargic all day. Though I did get off my ass and go to sears and get a new air conditioner for this room. I even installed it by myself. Usually I let my folks do it, but today I looked at the steps (didn't read them), looked at the window and had it in and running in 5 minutes without electrocuting myself or blowing a fuse.

Go me.

P.S.

The final few strips of 28 will go up this weekend. I promise it'll be worth the wait.

Catching Up

On Sunday my self made rocket ship computer bit the big one. Think it was the power supply, not sure. All I know is that it was the server I've used for my satellite dish and without it connecting, I couldn't do work.

Got a cheapo HP to replace it. Actually, what I did was I took the old TV computer (which was having video problems), and made that the new server then used the HP as the new TV computer. It fits in my tv cabinet ... just barely.

Was able to take all the old stuff out of the TV computer and put them in the HP. Then took all the stuff out of the dead computer and put them in the little machine. Everything seems to be working.

One thing I don't like about the HP is with the small case and the multimedia card reader they installed, there isn't a drive bay open for a 2nd hard drive. So I had to double up hard drives on the little machine, which is putting a strain on the 200w power supply. I ordered a new 250w "whisper quiet" power supply to replace it. HOPEFULLY that will do the trick and stop the crashing when I'm playing City of Heroes.

I'm also having tivo problems. I ordered a new one. It's identical to this one except it's a phillips branded one instead of a hughes branded model. Right now I'm resetting the hughes so I can install the phillips. I'm giving the hughes to my parents. I mean it works but it was just being a PITA when I was exporting stuff to this machine.

It took 2 hours to clear off the old machine so yah, umm, I guess I have been over working the frigging things lol.

I hate waiting though and I have 20 minutes until I need to have the new unit installed and going or else I miss a show. Bastards. Complete bastards.

Nothing else going on. Other than (obviously) going insane.
