Saturday Night (Again)

I've been working probably harder than I've ever worked lately. It's weird. I'm on overdrive and it just doesn't seem to be enough. The bar keeps getting raised and raised and raised ... and I know we're the only team doing this crap. I'm getting tired and tired quickly of this unending pace.

Before the transfer I worked 7 day weeks. No big deal, really, when you have 7 days you can space them out. It was also pretty static. I knew exactly what I was getting into and knew what I was doing every day of the week. Life was pretty easy. With the transfer, the rules changed. It was one of those "everything you thought you knew about your job was a lie" type of deals.

I thought I used to work hard. I realize now that it was good times, easy times and probably better times, even with all the B.S. I know that I'm on a better team now, I know that for sure, it's just harder work and harder times. I don't dread signing on like I used to. BUT, on the other hand, my mind is back to work. I can't just sign out and it's done.

So in a round about way, I've been doing updates here on Saturday nights quite a bit because I'm usually out of hours for the week and it makes no sense to go in and put my mind on work when they're not paying me for extra hours (and never will).

Saturdays are an escape from the week. I've been under pressure. I'm trying to juggle a lot of things besides work. There's the never-ending video projects. There's COH, there's responsibilities here too, plus dozens of friendships and relationships that need attention. I'm afraid something's going to happen and I'm just going to slip up and lose things. Either my job or friendships or whatever. Like that shoe is coming to drop and I know it.

It's not really new, it's been this way since late May. My vacation then getting sick really screwed things over. I don't know if I'm over extended or what but I do know something has to change so I start getting more "me" time.

New project lately: brushing the dog's teeth. Both just had to have their teeth cleaned again. The doctor decided I was to brush their teeth every day or every other day. You know what? I knew I would get roped into it because you can't trust my dad to do this and my mom's never here. So here I am, once a day, trying to keep the dogs from biting me as I try to brush their teeth.

My friend Wendy says that all you really have to do is spread the toothpaste around and coat the teeth. So I'm trying that. Roscoe is getting used to it. He's not trying to bite me any more. He has this pained expression on his face when he realizes that it's time for the brushing, but he doesn't try to run. Thor, on the other hand, makes life miserable every time. Every time.

Finishing a DVD now on the other machine. I should be in COH. I said I'd go in earlier and have been trying all night. Getting the dreaded "can'tconnectdbserver" error. So I've been trying to get in every 15 minutes. Not working. Probably won't work tonight and there's not a damn thing I can do to fix it.

I think I'll try COH one more time after this DVD finishes. If I can't go in, WWE Smackdown, here I come. I feel like destroying things.

Be bad,

Saturday ...

Saturday morning and I have 23 minutes until I need to be to work. This is how life is going lately, when it's not work, it's video editing or going into City of Heroes. There just hasn't been a lot of time to myself or to devote to anything else lately.

The past month has been equally a blur and one of the longest months in my life. Somewhere in there I broke down and bought a Playstation 2. Yes, the ultimate evil.

After the crushing reviews of "Showdown: Legends of Wrestling 3," I wanted a good wrestling game. I ended up with a PS2 and last year's WWE Smackdown game. I now know why Evil James was bitching about the Undertaker. The game is @#$#'ing hard, even on easy level. You lose matches! Unheard of! In season mode, you start out as a scrub and you have to work your way up until you can beat stronger guys. You lose quite a bit. There's no real way around it unless you want to be a weenie and take the strong guys out of season mode. Not that I'd DO that but ... hmm ... so right where were we?

I bought a handful of cheap games off of ebay but really didn't have time to play them. Again, I found myself buying a system just for the wrestling games and I'm getting flashbacks to the N64. While Smackdown is nowhere near as fun as WWF No Mercy for the N64, it still has its moments and yah, it beats WWE RAW 2 for XBOX in every feature except graphics. The Xbox will always blow the PS2 away in that department. The PS2 just can't compete with the hardware.

Ended up also buying ESPN NFL2k5 for XBOX. Didn't go with the sony version because ... well, see above. Xbox has better graphics, I love the Xbox J controllers and if I'm plunking down money for a football game it's going to be the one with all the extra features. One of the big ones is that you can customize the soundtracks that play over the PA system for nearly every situation in football. You can even go to a certian part of a song and start the song there (something WWE Raw 2 for Xbox really needed). So don't be surprised when my games start with "Hello Dolly" and "Highway to Hell" blares any time I get a touchdown. It's my soundtrack and I can be as psychotic as I want with it. :)

New strips are coming eventually. I have to figure out where I was going with with this past stuff. I wrote the first strips 3 months ago and for the life of me, I'm not sure where I was going. I'll figure it out, so stay tuned ...

Saturday Night

As the title says, it's Saturday Night, I'm home. I'm sitting here burning DVDs on one machine and playing City of Heroes on the other. Okay not presently playing. The DVD machine needs rebooted and since it's the connection to the internet for this machine, I needed to get out of game until I can finish this disc and reboot.

Not much going on. Tomorrow is my friend Margie's (MAR-GHEE as in Fonzie) birthday. She's caught up to me in age for a whole 2 months or so before I pass her again. It's okay, I think she's adjusting to this age thing, but you know what? She's 2 hours away, if she goes on a rampage there's a lot of bodies between her and me to quell her rage before she starts knocking on my door. :)

Work is hell lately. Been too busy for words. Just sitting here thankful that I only had an hour to work today. I REALLY wanted to get to level 14 in COH tonight but I don't think I'm going to do that. 14 is the big "coming of age" level where you actually get travel powers in game. I'm getting flight. I know, everyone in the world says to get superleap (ala the hulk), but I've been using hover all the time (it's like a mini-flight) and I want to upgrade it to true flight.

My trouble is I don't like to group. Massively Multiplayer Online Games require you to group to get anywhere so ... well, my levels go a bit slower than everyone else's. I solo'd to 21 in EQ before I gave up, and I'll probably solo to 20-something before I give up on COH. It's an interesting premis (super heroes), but as soon as my best friend gives up on it, I'm SO gone.

I miss her. She's gone for her annual vacation. 2 weeks of not talking to someone who I talk to every day. I've been kind of down about it but the good news is that she should be back next week.

The cats are circling for early food but the trick is on them ... no clean dishes to put that food on. I just started the dishwasher so they're going to have to wait until it finishes. Dammit.

Damn, I'm going through DVDs. I've burnt 10 tonight. My hard drive over on the DVD machine was so full I thought the whole thing was going to crash before I even started burning the first one. Now, I'll probably have it filled again tomorrow at this rate then I'll have to find another night to burn DVDs again.

Oh, started the last DVD of the night instead of rebooting. I really didn't feel like rebooting this machine just yet. I'm a lazy ass, I know, just sitting here vegging before it's time to reboot and go back into the game.

I'm on the 10th Anita Blake Vampire Hunter novel. I have to finish this one then there's one more to go and the new one comes out 2 days before my birthday. So the tally is 7 books in like 3 weeks. I'm just ripping through them. I'm not sick, I'm over the ear infection, but I've had this urge to finish the series and see how it ends.

Been doing a lot of ebay lately. Not big stuff. Just stocking up on my niece and nephews' birthday and christmas presents. Got Xander (new baby) a bunch of baby clothes. My sister told my mom that he's growing so fast it's amazing. He's 2 months and he's almost in 6 month old clothing. God only knows how big he'll be by xmas. His brother Zane was the same way. Just giants.

Got my niece some cheap necklaces and earrings. My parents are going back out there at the end of next month so they'll take one set of stuff out for the kids. Xander gets clothes, Jordan gets the necklaces and Zane gets a set of Transformers. I need to get my brother-in-law something too. I'm NOT in the mood to talk about him right now. Just say that if I happen to forget his birthday for the first time in 17 years, oh well. Screw him.

I'm Alive

It's Saturday night and I"m sitting here catching up with busy work.

I had attempted to put a 200gb and a 120gb hard drive into an external firewire box this week. Didn't work. Either the device was crappy or windows wasn't going to recognize it. I got everything installed properly but windows would randomly recognize the drive and when they both were installed it decided that it was a single drive and wouldn't let me access data on either.

I got pissed off, went to my Compaq that I use as the TV computer, ripped out the extra DVD drive and the floppy drive and now ta-da, that has a 160gb hard drive to start followed by the 200gb and 120gb drives. So yah that's 480gb on the machine. I know that you're not supposed to make a hard drive as a slave to a DVD drive and I'll fix that once I get a faster burner for that machine, but for now, it's up, it's running and I tossed the firewire box.

Also got my scanner hooked up for the first time in a year. I had to scan the documentation from my new creative nomad (replacement for the broken one), so Redchair software would let me transfer my notmad software over to the new device. I had intended to do this for a while but never got around to doing it.

I've also moved my monitor down on the new desk so I can actually see the screen without straining my eyes. I love my new computer desk but the only place to put a CRT monitor is on an elevated shelf which means you have a bout a foot you and the CRT. It really wasn't working. I'm looking for a cheap quality LCD to eventually replace this CRT but for now, I crammed it on a lower shelf and it's working for me.

Lastly, I'm finally getting all my 'Dead Like Me' files together to make copies for a friend. I've been meaning to do this for six months now but never had the space to do it. Now with 480gb at hand (220 of it free), I think I have the space to store the files so I can watch them whenever I like.

Don't worry, not going power mad but daaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn! Half a terrabyte on my TV machine! Whoo ha!
