Collin “Project Constitution” Campbell released footage on Thursday of his two March hearings in Maryland District Court as he sought a peace order against Jose “Chille” DeCastro.
The first hearing was held on March 11, 2024, in front of Judge Suzan H. Hazlitt. Campbell represented himself while DeCastro was represented by an attorney identified as Jan Beralage.
Despite Campbell’s later fears, Beralage is a licensed attorney in the state of Maryland and works for Goh Hankey & Berlage LLP. He also is a bankruptcy lawyer doing work for the Federalist Society.
The hearing went under four minutes, with the Judge essentially stating that since DeCastro had yet to be served, she was continuing the case until March 25th to allow Campbell to serve DeCastro using a member of the police to provide a return of service.
Beralage briefly brought up his concerns that the state of Maryland had no jurisdiction over DeCastro has he lived in Nevada and the alleged crimes did not occur within the state.
Judge Hazlitt explained to Beralage that they often deal with cases where the defendant lives out of state and Maryland has jurisdiction in the case.
The second hearing, held March 25, 2024, went smoother for Campbell as DeCastro offered no representation at the hearing.
Judge Kerwin Anthony Miller Sr. handled the hearing and quickly affirmed the fact that DeCastro had been served in Nevada, where he was now jailed, which allowed him to make a final decision on Campbell’s claims.
DeCastro’s hastily written motion to dismiss was handled first, with the Judge denying the motion as DeCastro was not present to argue it.
The Judge confirmed the two addresses that Campbell wished DeCastro to stay away from then granted him the maximum length of time for the peace order. He then explained that DeCastro must stay away from Campbell’s two residences or face arrest, prosecution and possible fines and incarceration.
When Campbell asked about how to have YouTube take down videos DeCastro Judge Miller referred him to the Maryland Self Help Center, which provides lawyers who would be able to give Campbell proper legal advice.
Campbell’s peace order expires on September 25, 2024.
