Saturday’s live informercial saw Jose “Chille” DeCastro again announce that his 501(c)(3) organization was “finished” and that he would soon be releasing new cash application accounts devoted solely to the organization.
DeCastro has announced that the organization, We Support People, had been “done” in the past, but seemed confident that he would have the ability to run “tax free” fundraisers by Wednesday, February 7, 2024, the date of his planned fundraiser for YouTuber Craig Hendry.
Hendry has multiple charges against him in Indiana, with the most prominent one a harassment and stalking charge after an October 2023 encounter with police inside the Clinton, Ohio, City Hall.
DeCastro announced that the fundraiser for Hendry, with the intention of raising $2,000, would be the first use of We Support People’s accounts with all proceeds going towards hiring YouTuber Larry “The DUI Guy” Forman to represent Hendry.
Strangely, DeCastro later backtracked, claiming that LegalZoom.com had yet to give him an EIN number for his non-profit, so he may have to collect money through his personal accounts and then transfer the money over to the non-profit at a later time.
While DeCastro is promising his viewers that they will soon be able to “write off” donations to his charity, it is unclear how DeCastro’s non-profit could be “finished” and able to take funds without an EIN number.
According to form1023.org, a nonprofit Employer Identification Number (EIN) is a tax ID number assigned to all nonprofits, charities, organizations and businesses. Those intending to create a nonprofit are required to have a EIN before starting a nonprofit organization and an EIN is required as part of the process of opening a bank account for the nonprofit.
A simple search of the Tax-Exempt Organization database showed that no organization by the name of “We Support People” has been registered with the Internal Revenue Service as of press time.
This is a developing story.
