Monday’s ruling by Justice of the Peace Ann Zimmerman to deny bond to Jose “Chille” DeCastro while he awaits his appeal for convictions of obstructing an officer and interfering with a traffic stop brought mixed reactions from friend and foe alike.
Long time fan Scrubzilla made the rounds to various pro-DeCastro live streams attempting to promote his on-going petition to force Zimmerman to resign from her duties in the Nevada court system.
His change.org petition failed to capture the interest of most in the audience as it had 53 signatures as of Monday morning, with little to no additions in the hours that followed.
Long time nemesis to DeCastro, Captain Chad Gue of the Ironton, Ohio, police force released a video briefly mocking DeCastro and encouraging him to finally take responsibility for his actions and do the time like a man.
DeCastro had previously challenged Gue to a Mixed Martial Arts battle in 2023 but controversially backed out of the fight at the last minute to due high blood pressure and a knee injury. While he has challenged Gue many times since then, more recent indications have been that he considers himself too old to battle anyone for sport again.
Another Nemesis, James “James Freeman” Springer (Freeman), released a video where he begrudgingly pledged his support to DeCastro only in the fact that he thought that DeCastro’s conviction was the wrong outcome of the case.
Despite pledging his undying dislike of the now-convicted YouTuber, Freeman clung to the false assumption that DeCastro was treated differently at his trial in mid-March and was the only one in the court room to have his phone taken away.
A simple viewing of the case would have corrected Freeman’s false assumptions and spare him from essentially humiliating himself in front of the hundreds of people who tuned into his Monday live stream to see him support his most hated rival.
Perhaps the strangest reaction of all came from attorney Michael Ehline, who claims to be DeCastro’s lawyer in Texas and California and is training DeCastro to take the California bar exam.
In a bizarre move, Ehline claimed that he and 9 other people arrived at the courthouse at 7AM on Monday in order to be character witnesses for DeCastro. They sat outside the courtroom and claimed that they were not permitted to enter the courtroom until called. This essentially ended DeCastro’s call for all of his supporters to “pack the courtroom” for his appearance to show Justice of the Peace Zimmerman that he was a true alpha.
Ehline’s hour long reaction video went from the strange to the bizarre as Ehline failed to remind his audience that he has a financial interest in DeCastro’s case, as he claims to be DeCastro’s lawyer in two states.
Ehline also essentially told DeCastro’s supporters that the near $40,000 they have raised for DeCastro’s defense went to waste as DeCastro’s lawyer for the case, Christopher Oran, was subpar as he was unable to secure DeCastro’s release. In the hours that followed Ehline’s statements, donations to DeCastro’s two GoFundMe campaigns dwindled to an almost complete stop as word spread that his fans were wasting their money in supporting further legal action.
The former marine further damaged his own reputation as he again denied simple facts involving DeCastro, including DeCastro’s participation in the release of phone conversations attacking Justice of the Peace Zimmerman to his YouTube channel.
Despite DeCastro’s broadcasts being labeled “emergency broadcasts from prison’ including a livestream where DeCastro would have a live call to his channel terminated for violating the jail’s rules, Ehline claimed that there was no way DeCastro had any control of or participation in the broadcasts as “he was in prison.”
Ehline further damaged his reputation as he stumbled over a side chat claim that DeCastro’s former lawyer on the case, Michael Mee, was a public defender. Ehline promised an investigation into Mee’s status, pledging fire and brimstone if Mee was indeed part of the Nevada public defender’s program.
The attorney, who has been airing daily livestreams in an attempt to replace DeCastro’s daily live infomercials and keep DeCastro’s fandom engaged with the case, ended his stream by devolving into conspiracy theories, anti-trans rhetoric and borderline hate speech.
Ehline is expected to return to live streaming on Tuesday, April 2, 2024.
