Attorney Michael Ehline’s incompetence as the apparent replacement for Jose “Chille” DeCastro was on full display Saturday night as the attorney turned broadcaster bumbled his way through another broadcast on DeCastro’s channel.
Billing his appearance on the channel as bringing another “live update” on DeCastro’s time in the Clark County Detention Center, Ehline quickly got lost in his own narrative, providing little updates to the 286 DeCastro starved viewers on YouTuber as he went back into his standard pitch that no one needs to go to law school to be an attorney.
While Ehline, or sidekick BZWatchDog, remembered to put a link at least one of DeCastro’s GoFundMe pages (the Legal Defense Fund Crime Scene Tape Illegal Arrest campaign), his lack of acknowledgement of the campaign actually may have hurt DeCastro in the long run.
DeCastro’s legal defense fund currently sits at $1,880.00 out of a set goal of $30,000.00. The intention of the campaign is to hire legal representation for the YouTuber in his up-coming June trial for making a false statement to a police officer.
The 6% completion for that campaign is doing better campaigns we follow (2% for DMA, 2% for Direct D, 5% for Press with Rancor), Ehline’s incompetence as a host and failure to turn off monetization for the stream saw hundreds of dollars go to super chats and memberships, which DeCastro won’t have access to for weeks, instead of funding the campaign.
Ehline himself seemed to have a lot to say about his weekly visit with DeCastro, but never got past his mumbling and bumbling reliance on pushing his own carny style lines of pushing his “you too can be a lawyer without law school” pitch, instead of giving actual updates on DeCastro’s time in jail.
The attorney tends to forget that he is on DeCastro’s channel and addressing DeCastro’s audience. He would be better suited reading his updates on DeCastro’s status – with more details than “Chille wanted me to remind you he has a store and uh, trifolds and cards and stuff” – before going into his standard meandering carny pitches for his own programs.
Much like Brian “Here’s the Deal” Young, his willingness to help a friend in need is commendable, but ultimately, his lack of awareness of his audience and the focus needed to address DeCastro’s followers seems to be hurting DeCastro’s fundraising efforts more than helping.
