In a dramatic account of his last 12 hours, Jose “Chille” DeCastro live streamed with a goal of raising $5,000 on Thursday afternoon after being arrested in Las Vegas last night.
DeCastro claimed that he needed $1,000 to cover his bail as he decided to put up the money to avoid having to wait for a judge to determine if he qualified for release on his own recognizance. He then needed $2,500 to hire a lawyer to represent him in a new federal civil rights lawsuit against the LVMPD, and $410 to file the suit.
The YouTuber then played his version of the events that led to his arrest, which started with him spotting a section of a busy street in Las Vegas that was blocked by police tape. DeCastro circled around and parked by a nearby Friendly’s restaurant then crossed the police tape as he walked over to a motorcycle police officer who was across the road.
Directing orders at DeCastro, the officer told DeCastro to walk to a brick wall then cut around through a parking lot, apparently to avoid the crime scene. DeCastro, apparently confused by the orders, kept walking forward, crossing under the crime scene tape multiple times before approaching a group of motorcycle police standing at a gas station.
DeCastro refused to say “hi” to the police after being greeted by them and continued to record when they questioned why he was beyond the crime scene tape. DeCastro then invoked his first amendment right as a member of the press and his fifth amendment right to remain silent, telling the police that they could no longer question him without losing their qualified immunity.
After threats from DeCastro, the officers began to escort him away from the crime scene. At one point he stopped and turned to confront the officers when he was taken to the ground and handcuffed. He was detained in the parking lot when a supervisor was called to the scene and later determined that there was enough evidence to arrest DeCastro for obstruction.
DeCastro praised one “young” officer for checking on him and loosening his handcuffs multiple times. He also claimed that the officer let him use his phone to call his family to come and get his dog Charlie, who was locked in his car.
The YouTuber said that his assistant JB came and got Charlie, brought him home, then was waiting at the police station for DeCastro when he was released in the morning.
While DeCastro did not share any harrowing details of his time in detainment, he did complain that it was very cold and that the police took his hoodie, only returning it when he was released.
In other DeCastro news, he claimed on the live stream that he would soon be leaving to have oral surgery, as he was scheduled to get dental implants later in the day. He also stated that he was scheduled for surgery on this Thumb, which he admitted was “messed up” before his March encounter with Officer Jesse Sandovol, who allegedly damaged it further.
DeCastro also announced that he would be hiring attorneys from now on to handle all of his cases, including his new $5 Million federal civil rights case based on this arrest, and that he was in the process of hiring a Detroit based lawyer for friend Youtuber Garrett “Press with Rancor” Van Nett.
Updating the status of his planned 501(c)(3) “We Support People,” DeCastro promised that it would be up by “next week” and that he was “going back and forth” with both the State and LegalZoom. He also promised anything donated past his current $5,000 goal would be donated to the 501(c)(3).
It is unclear how much DeCastro raised in his fund-raising efforts, though he did state that he would be revealing all donations on tomorrow’s live stream.
