Tuesday’s Delta County, MI, Board of Commissioners Meeting addressed changes facing the county and the ramifications of Jose “Chille” DeCastro’s recent visit to the area and his threat of a Federal Civil Rights lawsuit on behalf with Garett “Press with Rancor” Van Nett (Rancor).
DeCastro visited Rancor in Michigan last month and the pair staged a protest at the last scheduled Board of Commissioners meeting. With Rancor giving his public speaking time to DeCastro, DeCastro spent the better part of the six minutes describing a conspiracy on the part of the entire family of a police officer who arrested Rancor for interfering in a traffic stop along with Delta County Prosecuting Attorney Lauren Wickman to harass Van Nett.
The YouTuber then ended his remarks with a threat of a Federal Civil Rights Lawsuit against the county unless they removed Wickman from her position, provoking the crowd on the way to his seat. Once seated, DeCastro continued to be disruptive and a near-riot broke out as the meeting adjourned and DeCastro again confronted meeting-goers.
Tuesday’s meeting saw meeting goers still upset with DeCastro’s actions. Delta County Commissioners Chairman David Moyle addressed DeCastro’s actions early in the meeting, stating that he did not know or invite DeCastro to the previous meeting.
Moyle proposed that all Delta County employees receive training in how to handle First Amendment Auditors as the service has been offered to the county free of charge. The motion was supported by another commissioner, but no vote for implementation was held at this time.
While DeCastro was not in attendance, the crowd was still disruptive. The public feedback portion of the event was halted as one meeting goer was ejected for attempting to disrupt the meeting. One comment resumed, general feedback was negative towards DeCastro’s actions, with one man using his time denying that he had invited DeCastro to the previous event and that he was a supporter of DeCastro’s cause.
The next Delta County Board of Commissioners meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, November 21 at 5:15PM local time.
