Christopher “Denver Metro Audits” Cordova (DMA) and Regan Benson’s individual appearances at the Englewood, Colorado, City Council meeting Monday night devolved into screaming matches with city council members after what had been a productive session for both parties.
DMA appeared at the meeting to again discuss the Englewood code of conduct for public spaces including government buildings and parks. He had previously met with Englewood City Manager Sean Lewis and announced that the personal hygiene and possession of garbage portions of the code of conduct would be removed.
However, after the success, DMA lingered into the defense of patrons at the Englewood public library, located in the Englewood Civic Center, who wanted to watch pornography in public. DMA was questioned about his belief that pornography should be accessible and viewed in public places as it was unconstitutional to ban viewing of it in publicly funded buildings.
DMA also advocated for the removal of portions of the city code of conduct that prevented citizens from urinating and defecating in public spaces and for the ability for citizens (both male and female) to display their breasts in public in a non-sexual manner. He claimed both issues would help defend the rights of homeless individuals, who are often mentally ill, and prevent the homeless from being “criminalized” in Englewood.
When members of the city council were able to provide feedback on his ideas, Cordova loudly chastised the city council members in defense of his ideas. Later leaving the meeting with Benson, who would storm out and endorse his idea of allowing for the viewing of pornography in the library in sequestered areas.
Benson herself had arrived at the meeting in the presence of a homeless man named Robert who had received a ticket earlier in the day for blocking a walkway in an Englewood Park and claimed he had been evicted from all Englewood parks for 45 days after he was caught smoking.
The YouTuber was also there to serve an updated letter to the Englewood City Council demanding bodycam footage from an October incident in which she claimed Englewood police attacked a homeless man. Benson had heard from the Englewood police, who classified the incident as an assault on an officer as the homeless man had allegedly struck one of the officers during the incident and attempted to run officers on the scene over with his van before fleeing.
Benson, speaking directly to the City Council during the public feedback portion of the meeting, sarcastically claimed that Englewood’s police would want to have the bodycam of the incident released as it showcased what great work they had been doing. She then went on to criticize the costs involved in obtaining bodycam footage and demanded action on her request.
The subject of bodycam footage brought about immediate questions and feedback from members of the council, who seemed receptive to her pleas. City council member Steve Ward pointed out that there was no law preventing tobacco use in Englewood Parks and that he himself had smoked without a problem I the parks in the past. He also said he would investigate further the incident involving Robert’s apparent ban from Englewood parks.
Benson reacted negatively later in the meeting when city council member Othaniel Sierra asked her to refrain from making judgements about the Englewood police force without having both sides of the issue. Benson screamed at Sierra and returned to the public speaking podium before being told she would be removed from the meeting should she continue to speak out of turn.
After the exchange, Benson stormed out of the meeting room with Robert in tow, meeting with DMA and others in the lobby of the building before ending her live stream.
The homeless man named Robert who appeared at the meeting should not be confused with the homeless man named Robert who Benson had claimed to be caring for after the man suffered severe frostbite earlier in the year. Benson provided no updates on that Robert during the broadcast.
