Judge Beverly J. Cannone ruled on Tuesday that she would allow portions of previously impounded documents to be released in redacted form after granting a request by the Boston Globe for access to documents in the Karen Read murder case.
The Boston Globe was looking to obtain copies of a previously denied defense motion to dismiss the case. The paper argued that the public had a right to the information in those motions as the defense had brought up elements of its motion that were in the public interest.
Cannone ordered the release of some documents related to the motion to dismiss, giving the prosecution until Wednesday afternoon to properly redact vital information from release to the public. The Judge will then complete the redactions and release those documents to the public.
Karen Read, nor her defense attorneys, were present at the Tuesday’s hearing. Read’s defense team previously had stated that they had no opinion on the motion by The Boston Globe.
