In a live stream entitled “I was unlawfully arrested for investigating a tyrannical mayor!” before the arrest happened, SeanPaul “Long Island Audit” Reyes (LIA) was arrested in the Schenectady, New York, City Hall on Monday.
Reyes went live a little after 11AM Eastern on Monday, wandering through the Schenectady City Hall while filming and eventually making his way to Schenectady Mayor Gary McCarthy’s office where he attempted to obtain an interview with the mayor to go over LIA’s accusations of corruption and tyrannical behavior.
When LIA eventually encountered a security guard, he was instructed that he could not film in the building due to an executive order put in place by Mayor McCarthy in October of 2022. LIA argued with the security guard until police showed up and he then meekly submitted to arrest.
LIA’s phone could not be shut off by officers on scene as it was locked by the Attorney Shield application that LIA has been paid to endorse. As he would later point out in an “unintentional” commercial for the product, the Attorney Shield program will launch on Wednesday, April 3, 2024.
Once released, LIA could not contain his happiness as he half-heartedly verbally attacked the mayor and displayed a notice of trespass from the police. He then insisted that he was filing multiple state and federal lawsuits against Schenectady.
LIA later claimed that since there were police assigned to the city hall that the city may be in violation of a recent appeals court ruling that granted LIA the temporary ability to record in police buildings. He is currently suing the NYPD challenging their ban on recording in police precincts; the case is currently at an appeals court as the Court determines if a temporary injunction on the ban can go into place.
Contrary to LIA’s claims on his later live stream, the Schenectady City Hall has had a reputation for arresting those that violate their filming policy, including auditors New York State Audit and Auditing Eerie County. LIA later said he was aware of New York State Audit failing in a lawsuit challenging the executive order.
Adding to suspicions expressed by observers that LIA had planned the event, the description of LIA’ video and his later follow-up video instructed LIA’s fans to call the Schenectady Police Department and the Schenectady City Hall in protest of the allegedly planned arrest before the arrest happened.
LIA is due in court for the simple trespassing charge on April 19, 2024.
