Despite dramatic testimony from the family of fallen police officer John O’Keefe’s family detailing Karen Read’s strange behavior in the hours following her discovery of O’Keefe’s body and a bombastic rejection of the charges by Read’s defense team in their opening statement, Monday’s first day of Read’s murder trial was more interesting for the things that didn’t happen than what happened in court.
Serving as what some described as an unofficial “propaganda master” for Read’s defense team, “award winning journalist” turned blogger Aidan “Turtleboy” Kearney’s recent reports about the trial proved unfounded if not entirely untrue as the day progressed.
Kearney, who is facing multiple felony charges for his time spent as the leader of the “Free Karen Read” movement, had previously stated that victim John O’Keefe’s father, John O’Keefe, Sr., had sided with the Read family in the case and would be sitting in support of the Read family during the trial.
As the livestream opened, the senior O’Keefe could be seen directly on camera sitting with his family in their designated area facing the camera, far from the Read family, who were seated behind the defense team. O’Keefe Sr. appeared to make no indication of support for the Read family and largely ignored their presence as the livestream progressed.
A similar claim by Kearney during the hearing also proved unfounded as he tweeted that Lindsey Gaetani, who has a protection order against Kearney, was escorted to the court on Monday by Paul O’Keefe, son to O’Keefe Sr. and brother to the fallen officer allegedly slain by Read.
Kearney’s attempts to link his own story to the trial was denounced by reporter Grant Smith Ellis, a known associate of Gaetani, who claimed on twitter that Kearney had fabricated his report on Monday in an attempt to continue his relationship with Read’s defense team.
Read’s trial for second degree murder continues later today.
