[Please note: This is the first version of what would become the Ring Report TV update. I wrote it as a kid on an old fashioned typewriter in the 1980s. Presented “as is” in original format. There was no internet, I couldn’t spell, so please be kind.]
Wrestling Report for the week of 7/19/86
NWA Florida
1) Kendo Nagasaki lost a loser leave town match to Lex Luger. This highlighted the series of bizarre events between the two individuals. They run like this.
A. The Ninja wins the Florida title after the lights went out and Kendo Nagasaki attacked Kendal Windham while the Ninja recovered. The lights came back on and the referee saw the Ninja pinning an unconscious Windham. The Ninja was awarded the belt.
B. Photos taken before and during the blackout pop up. The photos before the blackout show Kendo coming into the ring. During the blackout the photos (specially highlighted), show someone (apparently Nagasaki), attacking Windham and placing the apparent form of the Ninja on top of him. The intruder left the ring just before the lights went on. Photos after the blackout show that Kendo Nagasaki and his Kendo stick were now at ringside.
C. Lex Luger worked as a detective to find incriminating evidence to prove to the NWA Board of Directors that Kendo did attack Windham.
D. Upon the arrival of new evidence the NWA Board of Directors held a hearing to determine the events of the match and to decide the Florida Champion. The Board said a motive (other than Nagasaki being under contract with the Ninja to Sir Oliver Humperdink), had to be established to incriminate Nagasaki and the Ninja.
E. Luger shows up with the evidence that Nagasaki was the Vice President of Humperdink Enterprises and had received a large pay raise after the match. Luger proved this by copies of the records which he somehow got his hands on. The motive was that Nagasaki was furthering his out of the ring job by interfering in the match.
F. The NWA stripped the Ninja of the belt and handed it back to Kendal Windham.
G. Sir Oliver Humperdink fires both the Ninja and Nagasaki from his managerial services and from Humperdink Enterprises.
H. Nagasaki challenges Luger in a series of matches which ended in the loser leave town match. Which Luger won.
Then Nagasaki had refused to leave Florida, and NWA officials have terminated all of his contracts for the Florida area. This leaves the Ninja on his own.
2) Sir Oliver Humperdink was not at all hurt by the loss of the Ninja or Nagasaki. He has recruited a team of two super heavy weights from Texas All Star Wrestling circuit (which shouldn’t be confused with the World Class League). The team is comprised of Ed “Bull” Gantner (also called “Brantly” and “Grantly”), an overweight wrestle who doesn’t look familiar, and a guy named Kareem Muhammad, a black wrestler – fat, full head of hair – wears camouflage shirts – looks almost like Kamala with hair, these two are named the “Shock Troopers.” They, along with Cowboy Ron Bass (who isn’t under contract with Humperdink), have been taking on everyone.
Humperdink also has a league of masked wrestlers named the “Shock Brigade” who are guys that Humperdink hired just for muscle. Most have little or no wrestling abilities. They have been interfering before the “Shock Troopers” interfere in matches.
3) If Bob Roop hadn’t been Maha Singh or had such a bad reputation with the fans, then I would of never known that he was ever a bad guy. He sounds like a pure stock by the book fan favorite. The same goes for Lex Luger. Maybe the Windhams weren’t that bad of an affect of them.
4) Weirdo match of the show: it had been signed to be Lex Luger defending his TV title against Ron Bass, but Bass challenged Luger to get Tryee Pryde as a partner, while he got one of the Shock Brigade members as a partner (the Shock Brigade do not have names — they’re just referred to as “a shock brigade member”) — with the TV title going to Ron Bass if his team won or the Title remaining with Luger if Luger’s team won.
Pryde and Luger accepted, and the match lasted about 6 seconds before Bass and the Brigade member were out of the ring on their butts. The Shock Troopers cam running in and attacked Pryde and Luger, Barry Windham ran in — and all hell broke loose! When it was over no decision was made — and the match went down as a double disqualification.
5) Shawn Royale is looking good in action — looks like Hiro Matsuda has another winner on his hands.
6) Another young rookie looks good in action too, Chris Champion (it is not know if he is any relation to Todd Champion), he sounds like Lex Luger before Luger became a good guy. he’s going to do a lot in the NWA.
WWF News
1) The only surprise to the Hulk Hogan-Paul Orndorff vs. King Kong Bundy & Big John Studd match was the fact that Orndorff waited so long to attack Hogan. I, and the rest of the world, knew what was coming — for goodness sake, McMahon practically said it was coming when he showed the pre-fight interview with Hogan and Orndorff arguing in the dressing room. Also McMahon did so little to notice the real conflict between Hulk and Orndorff — he and Bruno Sammartino actually sounded surprised that Orndorff trampled Hogan.
The bout went like this: Studd and Bundy were already in the ring as Hogan ran past Orndorff coming into the ring. Orndorff looked pissed as he got to the ring — then talked with Hogan for about 2 minutes until the match began.
Orndorff started for his team, he battered Studd then Bundy, then Studd tagged back in. Orndorff made the sign that he wanted to slam Bundy. Bundy said go ahead, Orndorff tried, and failed. Studd hammered him, then tagged to Bundy, who tried to splash Orndorff, Orndorff moved out at the last second, and acted like his leg was hurt. He moved to the turnbuckle as Bundy got up. Bundy saw this and tried an avalanche — Orndorff moved out of the way at the last second and Bundy Hurt himself.
Orndorff tagged out to Hogan who came in and slammed Studd (who had tagged in from Bundy), Orndorff looked like a madman at ringside when Hogan did so. Hogan then slammed Bundy, who was running in to attack Hogan. Bundy and Studd double teamed Hogan, who needed to tag out. Orndorff was dying for a tag. But the Hogan “adrenaline attack” happened and Hogan attacked Studd and Bundy — who immediately double teamed Hogan. They threw Hogan toward the ropes — and Hogan reached back to tag Orndorff, “Accidentally” hitting him in the face in the process.
Orndorff looked shocked — he didn’t know who hit him — as the referee disqualified Studd & Bundy, Orndorff climbed back into the ring apron. Hogan was really getting hammered — and Orndorff didn’t know the match was over and after about five minutes he ran in to save Hogan. When he cleared the ring he helped hogan up when it hit him who had hit him. He probably was thinking about all the frustrations over the past two months — then he clotheslined Hogan and went off with Bundy, Studd and Heenan to the dressing room.
In the dressing room he was greeted and hugged Adrion Adonis — Vince McMahon said he thought “it was all planned” I don’t know about that — but McMahon knew about it.
AWA Report
1) Larry Zybszko is claiming that he will be starring in “Karate Kid III” . . . He should be in the WWF with this kind of crazoid action.
2) Scott Hall is injured, that would explain his disappearance from the AWA.
3) The Maxx Brothers looked great in heir match — and sound pretty weird in interviews.
4) I noticed the crowd changed for once!
5) Buddy Rose is using the DDT.
6) Stan Hanson has not shown his face yet.
7) Earthquake Ferris is being a referee — not a very good one at that — he gave quick counts to the pinfall of Col. Debeers over Jake Milliman.
8) Nick Bockwinkle defended his title against Borris Zukoff — he looked good.
NWA Florida Action pt. 2
1) The Fabulous Ones are using the double DDT!
They also unmasked and identified one of the Shock Brigade members. The member entered the ring and attacked the Fabs. when they had a match versus Dr. death and the Marauder. Humperdink has the Brigade enter and attack the Fabs. in every match the Fabs. have. This time the Fabs. knocked out the Brigade Member — took off this mask — then identified the guy as Jack Towers, a truck driver that they knew. A truck driver? What is Humperdink recruiting??
2) The Cuban Assassin is back in the area. He destroyed a guy named Dennis Sour. Jim Backlund came in to help Sour get out of the ring — after the Assassin destroyed Sour. Backlund was only trying to help Sour out of the ring — the Assassin ran out and destroyed Backlund by surprise.
NWA in general
1) I did some research to fins some facts about Big Bubba to satisfy my mind. Big Bubba used to be a wrestler in the Texas All Star League, he was a good guy.
2) I did some digging, and found Uncle Elmer (like Cousin Jr.), wrestling in the Mid-Southern area, and he changed his name to “Hillbilly Elmer”, from he picture he hasn’t changed clothes from the WWF days.
NWA Mid-Atlantic
1) It looks like Ric Flair is going to get through the 3 remaining people for he end of the 14 challenger in 30 days thing.
2) Magnum TA is now down 3-0 in the best of 7 series with Niketa Koloff. The trouble is the interference factor while the referee is distracted by Ivan and Krusher.
3) The Warlord was KO’d last week — but Big Bubba’s punch was helped with a roll of quarters he held in his hand.
