So I’m on the MAC again.
My PC is currently refusing to see the network with its built in network port. So I’m kinda stuck on the MAC until the network card that I ordered comes in. I can’t tell you how much this sucks because frankly, it just does.
Otherwise, the new graphics card went in fine and the majority of the problems I was having with Iclone3 were solved with the upgrade from an ATI x1900 to an ATI x4850 card. The one thing that was NOT fixed by the move, however, was the problem with custom clothing. It’s doing the same stuff it was doing before and it sort of negates the usefulness of the program right now as everyone is going to end up wearing the same 5 or 6 outfits that work without a problem.
Supposedly they’re releasing a patch this week, so I am hoping for the best.
One bad thing about this week is I’m starting to lose faith in Newegg.com. Newegg is like my right hand when it comes to computer supplies. They’ve been my rock through several PC builds and frankly, I haven’t had a bad word to say about them through several years of usage. This week, however, the implemented some sort of new “saver” mail option to replace their normal free UPS option. Instead of UPS they’re using DHL and for that reason a package that normally took 1 day to get here from New Jersey is now approaching three as my ordered ram is sitting in a DHL shipping facility in New Jersey and GOD KNOWS when it’ll be here.
I realize that times are tough and that they probably switched due to high gas prices, but come on, the reason I used Newegg instead of going to office max or staples (or circuit city or whatever) was that they a) had better prices and b) usually got things here overnight. Now that there’s apparently a huge delay in getting things here, I may think twice about using them.
Don’t think I won’t carry through with my threat. In the first year of Amazon.com’s life they used to offer free upgrades on shipping to encourage you to come back. It was awesome. I’d order a book and it was there 2 days later without fail. When they stopped, the free shipping option started taking 5 days to get to me. NOT so awesome. So I greatly reduced the number of purchases I’ve made with Amazon. The key, again, was their prices and fast shipping were enough to get me to stay in and not go to a local bookstore. It was a great value and if presented with that value, I’d sure as hell use it again.
So Newegg. Dear, sweet Newegg. I’m hoping this is all some sort of misunderstanding. I’m hoping that the power supply I ordered today gets here like it normally would. If not, dammit, I don’t want to go out of the house. I get 10mpg in the SUV. The mall is 30 miles away. Ugg. Ugg. Ugg. And before you eco-nuts tear me a new one, I need a big SUV to haul my dad around it. He’s now getting a scooter and my car is the one they’re putting the electric ramp on. Joy to the world.
Now I’m waiting the 2 hours until my next shift (which I thought I had slept through but sadly, I hadn’t so I’m up until 3:30am), grumbling about the world and still on the MAC.
God help us all.
Jim
