It’s a wet, rainy day. Probably the first wet, rainy day we’ve had since October where the wet wasn’t snow. This has been a curious winter and now it’s starting a curious Spring. Weather has been mixed up a lot and it’s nothing like it usually is around here. I thought last year’s snow was bad but this year’s has taken the cake. We had more snow this Winter than I can ever remember having. Don’t know if this is normal or not but it has my concerned.
I’m still moving things around in the computer room. My computer desk is WAY too big to move. I’m actually longing to trade places with it and my entertainment center. Both are huge though, and both have a small army of junk on them so even if I had people here to help move them, it would still be a nightmare trying to facilitate moving them. I am taking the rearranging of this room as an excuse to throw some things out. I got rid of all the cats’ card board boxes. I left them one to sleep in. They had a whole pile of boxes to play in. It was nice for them, but really, it was setting off my allergies too badly to keep and it didn’t make the room clean.
Clean. Yuck.
I’m planning on getting another big bookcase to put … you know … BOOKS on … I realized that the other new bookcase is covered in anything BUT books and I have a whole library here. Someone teach me to sell obscure star trek books on ebay please. Haven’t bought one in YEARS yet I have a whole drawer filled with them. I’m a geek, dammit, but I’ve gotten out of both Star Trek and Star Wars lately because a) there’s waaaaaaaaaaaay too many multi-part books to catch up with them all (most books are 3 to 5 to 9 part epics), b) it’s too expensive per book ($7 a book! Yikes!), and c) the continuity is so messed up that what you read in one book is often mooted by another book or TV show (ENTERPRISE! AAAAAAAAAAH!), by the time you finish the book. So why bother reading?
In my next life, I’m coming back as a Star Trek babe. There’s one on every show now. 7 of 9 begat the Vulcan chick who will begot a bunch of babes and bimbos on whatever shows that will be coming. I’ve only seen a couple of episodes of Enterprise (no WB or UPN on my dish), so the only thing I know about it is the commercials and the news stories that they’re “Sexxing up” the series to keep it on the air. I really think it should be canceled. Going back in time was a mistake. No one cares about the early Star Trek universe. Writing a weekly series set in that era only makes the die-hards furious because you end up screwing up established continuity (never ever ever read a star trek continuity debate. You’ll agree that no one is getting laid on that board — even the married ones) and regular people won’t care because they want the boom pow zowies of all the previous star trek shows.
They should have set Enterprise in the far future. Make it the VERY same show but set it 3,000 years in the future. After most of the galaxy is destroyed by various wars and have man just rediscovering the technology to take to the stars. Have new spins on all the Aliens we’ve known and loved. That whole Vulcan/Romulan reunification thing that the geeks pop their tops over? Make it happen! Make Vulcans the bad guys or whatever! Have the Borg wipe out the Klingons! Who cares? It’s 3,000 in the freaking future. The story possibilities are endless.
Worried that the Next Gen cast won’t be able to guest star? WHO CARES? The next Gen movies suck anyway. The characters are getting as old as the actors that play them. The last movie was so bad that it should have been the stake through the heart of that series. B4? GET REAL. GET OUT. BRING ON THE NEW ALIENS, BABES & ACTION.
Star Wars is just as bad. One of the thrills of Star Wars, Empire and Jedi was to see the new and different vehicles and effects that each new movie would bring. The Star Destroyer in the first one became several in the 2nd evolving to the super star destroyer in the 3rd. Tie fighters went from cool (Darth Vader’s with the folded wings), to cooler (Tie Bomber) to coolest (Tie Enforcers or whatever the cool ones were in the 3rd movie). The fundamental flaw in the new movies (other than the plots suck), is the fact that nothing is cool. Nothing is different. Nothing is “oh wow.” Earlier is just a bad move all around when most of the die-hard fans are waiting for that moment when Darth Vader’s theme pops up as the Tie Fighters make their way into existence. SCREW midicholoreans and talk of the variance in the force, give me cool music and some freaking tie fighters and call me entertained.
Natalie Portman is the only saving grace of the new movies. She’s 10,000,000,000,000,000% times hotter than Princes Leia ever was and dammit, the fact that Kiera Knightly was her double in the first movie fills a lot of perverted fantasies on most Star Wars nuts’ dreamworlds. It’s too scary to get into. So leave it at that. 🙂
Okay, enough ranting. Back to work. I’ve got furniture to move.
