A friend came in from out of town last week and we spent most of the week going places that I always had intended to go to, but never had the chance to see. I have pictures up if anyone wants to see them.
My friend went down to North Carolina yesterday and now I’m sitting at home, devoting time to a computer that mysteriously sort of died last Saturday night. SOMETHING must have happened because the speakers are blown and my router was nuts. I didn’t have time to sit down with it until now and I had to order a replacement computer from newegg.com.
Why? Well I tried to buy one at Circuit City yesterday BUT let’s see, I have an All in Wonder X800 from ATI and it’s an AGP version of the card. Yes, I plopped down $500 for that card so I need a new machine with an AGP slot and at least a 400watt power supply to power it (most modern graphics cards require at least 300watt power supplies in the system) and all my hard drives.
Circuit City only had one model with an AGP slot in the whole store. Standards are changing and everything is going PCI Express. They couldn’t sell me the one with the AGP slot for two reasons: 1) it was the floor model and they didn’t have all the cables and 2) it only had a 250watt power supply. It took them roughly an hour to figure out 1) and 2) so I left without a computer.
For shits and giggles I looked inside my current machine. It’s a HP with a 250 watt power supply. No wonder that machine was acting funny. Needless to say new machine with a 420 watt power supply will be here Tuesday.
Got to love technology.
