You know, after nearly two years with a Joomla installation, someone, ANYONE would have told me that the fifty or so slideshows that we featured looked like hell on a laptop screen in any resolution less than 1080p.
I’ve checked this site on phones, on tablets, on dozens of devices and they all worked properly but it was my mistake not to check the site on a laptop screen. Had I done that, I would have found that the plugin I was using for a lightbox slide show would display the slideshows in a fashion that was too small to actually read the comics. Worse yet, you couldn’t even zoom in on them. That function didn’t work.
I found this out at 2:30am on a Saturday night after working an endless shift. I was at the point of exhaustion and really, I had a lot on my plate to begin with, adding a site redesign to it was going to drive me insane.
I looked into Adobe Muse, but, sadly, Muse is not a content system. I know my site is pretty static right now. I do two or three updates a month so it could theoretically work as a muse site if I applied some Jim-logic to it (multiple sites designed as documents), but in the end, it just wasn’t working after two days of designing.
So I turned back to Joomla. I had version 1.7. All the new plugins required version 2.5. I attempted to upgrade my server to the latest version and… well, I’m back on WordPress now. You can see how that went.
The site may change a few times before I get things down. There will be days where there are literally 100 new posts as I fill in my old personal blogs. You’ve been warned. I do like my current template. I have a million things to do in the background (like setting up regular backups of my WordPress install), but I have a working site right now and can theoretically plow ahead with the, you know, impossible task of redesigning all the old comics and still live with the site the way it is.
I might actually get a nap now. My nerves are shot. I have design schemes on the brain and I should walk away before I’m here all night.
Such is life.
Jim
P.S. The site has comments. Abuse them if you’re actually reading. I really do need to hear from you.
