Those who know me know that I’m literally allergic to the world. I almost died the last time I was allergy tested and it came back that I was allergic to everything they tested for.
Until recently, I was in a program of weekly shots with no end. It was balanced, every so often I’d have a reaction like I was drunk but other than a couple of weird hours after a shot, I’d be okay.
My allergy doctor left his practice at the end of last year. I was reassigned to a program where they do massive doses until you reach your “cure” and then you get a massive dose a month in order to keep up your immunity or whatever.
Massive doses. Well, I’m not a drinker, but yesterday I had my first shot in “maintenance” mode and the hangover feels like I had a barrel of beer or something rather than just a couple of bottles.
Between my ear infection and an instant reaction to the shots yesterday, my reactions to the world were over-exaggerated for the ride home. I think I drove home on the highway at 40 MPH, thinking that I was going the speed of light. It was much longer than normal, for sure, but I did get home okay when it hit me.
I had tons of packages waiting for me when I got home. After a nap (and a merciful cancellation of the afternoon meetings that were waiting for me), I was able to put in the new video card for the Plex computer along with new RAM.
I was not able to put the fan in. Number one, the one I bought was the wrong size for where I needed it and second, for some reason there were FOUR of them. Now I have fans for future builds, I guess but lol I don’t remember ordering FOUR.
One thing I discovered is that Plex as a video player when you’re NOT streaming and just playing files on the computer, is not the greatest experience. It struggles with 4K and anything with HDR enabled gives it major fits. In my stupor last night I switched to PowerDVD 20 to play local files and it was probably the first good experience I’ve had using PowerDVD over the years. This new version really enhances even low quality video and the audio output was excellent.
THAT SAID. I may go into a rant. I have always been an advocate of having an internal or external sound card because the built in sound of most computers sucks. I know video cards have been improving audio support (with both AMD and NVIDIA offering their own blend of audio schemes over HDMI) but I never heard it for myself. Last night, wow.
The new computer doesn’t have a dedicated sound system other than what came on the motherboard. I’m running a HDMI cable from the video card to my stereo processor that feeds the TV that does 5.1 (or 7.1 if I ever got off my butt and got the last 2 speakers), and normally sounds amazing with whatever I hook up to it. The output from the new video card (with some AMD sound scheme) was simply beyond compare. It really was impressive.
I ended the evening watching Pink Floyd’s “Pulse” concert and I was lost in music. Fitting, I guess for the spaced out night I had from the latest allergy shots.
This morning, I’m in hangover mode. I want to go back to bed. But isn’t that every day?
