David “Riverside County Accountability” Chavez will remain in jail at least until February 9, 2024, the date of the next hearing for the group dubbed “The Justice 8.”
As reported by LA Taco and the LA Times, it remains unclear why seven members of the group have remained in jail without the possibility of bail since mid-December raids saw their apprehension. Police say the group is a danger to society after multiple protests on behalf of street vendors led to violence.

After an investigation involving multiple police forces in the San Bernadino area, police say that the group targeted those people who they claim either physically or verbally attacked street vendors, often bringing hundreds of people to the homes of the accused, to show solidarity for the victims of their alleged wrongdoing.
Prosecutors warned that the group leader, Edin Alex Enamorado, has the ability to gather large groups of people to appear in a short period of time a handful of social media posts and would be a continued danger to society if released.
Violence erupted at three of Enamorado’s previous protests, with actions against three John Doe victims on display at the group’s most recent bail hearing on January 26. At that hearing, prosecutors described the defendants as flight risks and a danger to the public. They also claimed the group may retaliate against the alleged victims of their previous protest.
Group member Gullit “Jaguar” Acevedo was released on bail in late December on conditions he doesn’t contact the victims and the other defendants. Acevedo must wear an ankle monitor and stay off of social media as part of those release conditions.
Judge John Wilkerson did not immediately rule on the issue, opting to schedule another hearing for February 9, where the issue of bail may finally be resolved.
