It’s been an interesting week.
The brief “Troe Army war” in the so-called “Anti-Frauditor” portion of the first amendment (1a) auditing community brought out a lot of surprises as both sides skirmished. I’ve seen the good and the bad in people come out before the settlement, including one channel that preached love and acceptance take a nasty sucker punch at another creator *after* the “war” was over, and others that decided to stay the hell out of the way and watch things explode from a distance.
Then there’s the matter of CodedFriend.oo1. Long before any wars or skirmishes or bad behavior, Coded and Hank and Dan of the Welsh News Network had a falling out. It happens. They all went their separate ways and a cycle began of Coded making attacks on the WNN guys that brought about responses from them about Coded, then Coded responding back in a perpetual cycle.
I am a cast member of the Welsh News Network. I am also the publisher and sole person running this little paper, currently named “The Parking Valet Quarterly” for the week in response to one of Coded’s many many insults thrown my way as, yes, I’m a member of the Welsh News Network.
I’m also the reporter/publisher/owner of the only “newspaper” aimed at the 1A community. I call it a blog and I really don’t want to be associated with the term “journalist” as it’s been perverted by everyone who claims journalistic freedoms to cover their own bad behavior.
So, I’m a blogger, not journalist and sometimes… well, I think like a journalist and run into grounds of unwritten rules of journalism. In this case “don’t directly report on a subject you’re personally involved with.”
If I have a stake in the game, it may influence my reporting on said game, essentially.
It’s pretty much an adage of another time, as “journalistic standards” have been pounded into the ground for the past 30 years. However, I do try to keep it in mind as I put these blogs together each morning and put a damper on what the cast member of the Welsh News Network and simulation of a human being would want to say, with different approaches to the reporting to abide by the adage.
In Coded’s case, I admit, I’ve thrown a few pot shots back at him in this publication. No excuse for it, petty, probably not something a “journalist” would do. In the past couple of issues I’ve made jokes at his expense that I shouldn’t apologize for, but, after all, now that he’s proclaimed I’m his “yellow bird” there are things to be said as all’s fair in “love and war”?
https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=yellow%20bird
I realize that the nickname obviously came about without much thinking. It’s a dated reference to another time and a play on my last name, I get it (“Finch,” little yellow bird – though most of the ones we get near the house are brown). I’m pretty sure that he didn’t even check the urban dictionary for the modern definition of the term he’s using as a nickname.
There was also the bad timing that he wanted to have a telephone meeting with my parents… which, frankly, is even creepier if you take the two together. My dad has dementia, probably won’t be up to talk, but my mom would probably be willing to take a few fatted calves and a new car if you wanted to talk dowry, Coded, but ultimately, I do have to pass. You’re a married man.
As far as reporting on Coded… now that he’s declared his interest in me and is getting his “market research team” to predict my every move (or observe my moves and scream “GOTCHA!” after each one), I’ve made the decision to report on him like everything else I do. A neutral tone, leave my personal issues aside and move forward with the reporting.
That’s really all I can do as his calls for attention are getting louder, his stories are getting more outrageous and at some point, the diligent reporter/owner of The Parking Valet Quarterly will do his best to cover the news and move forward.
That’s all I can do.
On that note, sun rising, cats fed, a nap is calling. I wish the best to all of you on this fine Sunday, and to Coded, I’m sorry you misinterpreted our acquaintanceship for something more than it is. I hope that one day you’ll find your true love, your soul mate, your “yellow bird” in someone more worthy of your undying love. It’s not to be with me. I simply don’t feel that way about you. I’m sorry.
My heart belongs to blogging and with that… two stories to finish and a nap to take. Take care all.
