ROOKIE OF THE YEAR
The WCW aired the first batch of “Amateur Challenge” videos this week and advanced speculation says that STORM TROOPER FRED will win this contest hands, legs, arms, body, and head down . . .
WRESTLING NEWS
Three titles changed hands last week at the FALL BRAWL pay-per-view last week as STEVEN REGAL became the new WCW WORLD TV CHAMPION, RICK RUDE won THE WORLD TITLE from RIC FLAIR, and THE NASTY BOYS, accompanied by MISSY HYATT, took the WCW WORLD TAG TEAM TITLES from PAUL ROMA & ARN ANDERSON.
Apparently fans hated this PPV as ratings from this event were apparently the lowest in recent PPV history. While the general fan reaction was bad, critics say that at least the Rude/Flair and The Nasty/Horseman matches will go down as a classics. The highlight of the event, THE WAR GAMES, drew mixed reactions at best and WCW fans can only hope that the next PPV — HALLOWEEN HAVOC — will be a big improvement over this one.
In WWF NEWS, the turn of DOINK continued this week as DOINK dumped a bucket of water over JERRY LAWLER’S head during his appearance on “the King’s court.” Unfortunately, reports say that MATT BORNE (AKA DOINK #1), failed a drug test this week and has been suspended for at least a month from WWF activities. Check out “OUT OF THE RUMOR MILL” for more details, along with the alleged drug test failures of SCOTT STEINER & SHAWN MICHAELS.
On WWF SUPERSTARS, THE UNDERTAKER interrupted an interview with YOKOZUNA in order to challenge the two-time WWF Champion to a title match. Expect this mini-feud to last as long as it takes for LEX LUGER’S back injury to heal, and for the WWF to take care of Luger’s angle with LUDVIG BORGA.
IN WWF SHORT NEWS: HEAD SHRINKER FATU is now diving off the top rope to hit prelims ON THE FLOOR with his “Superfly Drop” . . . Speaking of Superflies, JIMMY SNUKA is scheduled to make a “one time” appearance on MONDAY NIGHT RAW tomorrow night . . . while SCOTT STEINER did defeat PIERRE ROUGEAU to earn a rematch between THE QUEBECERS & THE STEINERS for the WWF Tag straps, JOHNNY POLO said that the rematch would not happen tomorrow night on RAW . . .
IN WCW SHORT NEWS: THE HARLEM HEAT seem to be tag team wrestling’s answer to BOBBY EATON, as they’ve done jobs STING & DUSTIN RHODES, then (along with THE EQUALIZER), DUSTIN RHODES & THE HORSEMEN this week . . . WCW WORLD CHAMPION BIG VAN VADER has dropped the “big” and the “van” from his name . . . and MISSY HYATT is now actively managing THE NASTY BOYS, causing the male heartbeat of America to pulse uncontrollably during the time she appears on WCW broadcasts . . .

OUT OF THE RUMOR MILL BY WRESLNGREF
Well, the mill has been working over-time lately, spreading rumors of the death of major stars such as SCOTT STEINER, but there is absolutely no truth to these things and the people who are spreading them should grow up!
Things that HAVE gone down are the suspensions of MATT BORNE (DOINK #1) and SHAWN MICHAELS. Borne is out for 6 weeks, but will do on-camera interviews without pay, but Shawn Michaels has taken it a step further and walked out of the WWF! Shawn took his I-C strap with him, and while I don’t think it’s his personally like it was with RIC FLAIR, the WWF will probably decide to hold a tournament or have a phantom change.
In either case, the fact of Shawn leaving is perhaps the biggest talent blow the WWF has faced in quite a while. One wrestler lowered his head and said that “Michaels was the best worker in the business”. Shawn is either supposed to be heading to Japan or down south to WCW where his impact would be a huge boost to that federation.
THE STEINERS have reportedly been suspended as well, and they’re NOT happy with the WWF heads. The possibility of seeing them back in WCW is becoming more realistic everyday.
In WCW news, I heard word that SID VICIOUS is turning to face again. During an interview with THE HOLLYWOOD BLONDES, STEVE AUSTIN says he can’t wait for BRIAN PILLMAN to heal up and get back in the ring, when COL. ROB PARKER comes out and tells Austin he’s lined up a shot at the U.S. title for him. As soon as that’s said, Sid comes out of the back and starts screaming that the title shot should be his, and walks off after obviously dumping Parker. I don’t know when or if this is to be shown, but I would think soon. The Blondes are back in wrestling, but will probably be split up, giving Austin a big singles push.
DUSTIN RHODES is favored to win one of the big straps sometime in the future, and while most of the wrestlers like Dustin, they just don’t think he has enough ring experience to be a world champ. Guess that’s one of the benefits of having big Dust on the board.
All the WCW titles have changed hands over the Fall Brawl PPV, and it looks like the next big feuds will be CACTUS and Don’t-call- me-BIG-VAN-VADER, FLAIR/ROMA and the NASTIES w/MISSY HYATT, and ARN ANDERSON vs. “LORD” STEVEN REGAL.
A quick hit to the indies shows that the ROCK ‘N’ ROLL EXPRESS have beat THE BRUISE BROTHERS to win the Smoky Mountain Wrestling tag titles, and EDDIE GILBERT has left ECW under “unfriendly” circumstances. Not surprising there. MEDUSA MICELLI is wearing an engagement ring by her current flame, GREG “THE HAMMER” VALENTINE. Another 2 week marriage? Who knows, and better yet, who cares? 😛
That’s all for this week. Since you’re obviously a fan of wrestling, check out the GWA on AOL for the best in fantasy wrestling! Two big nights of wrestling fun every week year round! NOTES FROM THE MAD DOG
Forget MORTAL KOMBAT, forget STREET FIGHTER II TURBO, here’s the most addicting game in the world: NINTENDO PRO WRESTLING! Yes, the original game from 1986 featuring such stars as KING CORN KARN & STAR MAN, has me addicted! Special thanks goes out to one JIM “THE HERSHEY HELLFIRE” LUCIANI who willed the cart to me when he killed his Nintendo and upgraded to a Sega G! If you know the secrets of this game (hidden codes, best moves, etc.), e-mail me and I’ll be forever in your debt!
In a more serious note, it looks like the United States Justice Department, if it ever files charges, has a case against Vince McMahon and the WWF as three WWF Wrestlers allegedly failed drug tests this week. I know you’ve all heard the “Just say no” pledge a gillion times by now and don’t need another speech, but please, “Don’t be a DOINK! Don’t DO DRUGS!” End of rant.
Well, you’ve seen the “newest” incarnation of the gossip report, what do you think? WRESLNGREF may not appear every week, but when he does — watch out! Hot gossip alert! You might also note that PATTERN99 joins the Ring Report family on a weekly basis this week by taking over the coverage of WWF SUPERSTARS OF WRESTLING! Patt had been covering PPV’s for me and is another welcome addition to the staff! Finally, fans of IAN WINOGRAD have a week off as Ian is out playing with his new cat and catching up on homework — he’ll be back next week! Until then . . .
HAVE A GREAT WEEK!
MADDOGJMF and company!
