Colorado based YouTuber and activist for the Homeless Regan Benson announced that Kenneth “Red” Davison was found dead in his apartment on Monday, following an extensive search by Benson and others in the community.
Benson had posted a video to her YouTube channel Monday morning announcing that she was seeking Davison as he had been last seen in Englewood, Colorado, on March 19, 2024. His caretaker, who had arranged for his permanent housing, had gone out of the country on vacation in March and was unable to contact him before embarking on her trip.
A worker at his apartment complex was able to enter Davison’s apartment on Monday and confirm that Davison had died some time ago, while propped up in bed watching TV. His phone was on a charger next to him, which explained why reports had indicated that his phone had continued to be active while activity on his credit cards had ceased.
It is unclear why a wellness check was not done sooner in the case, as Davison had been missing for nearly a month. Davison’s caretaker is now attempting to claim his body for proper disposal.
Benson broke the story after her latest encounter with police in Denver’s District 3 area, as the police were enforcing Denver’s public camping ban and destroying property on scene as a box of needles was found at the encampment.
Carefully timing her interaction with police, Benson did not make obscene gestures or hurl insults at them until they began to leave the scene. The homeless advocate later explained that she had to limit her chances of being arrested in Denver now that Denver Mayor Mike Johnston had given her multiple slots to fill in the new homeless communities being established within the city.
Benson, strangely, complained about her inclusion in the program as it made her choose between members of the community she had interacted with in determining who would receive housing. The inclusion also limited her ability to properly protest at the scene of homeless interactions with police.
The YouTuber demonstrated this by briefly negatively interacting with a police officer who was providing security for the cleanup crew, then apparently fleeing the scene in fear of another arrest. Benson is currently facing multiple trials for previous charges in the Denver area.
