Regan Benson returned to the Englewood, Colorado, police department on Wednesday, where she was told by police sergeant William Dodes that the ban from the Englewood Public Library was legitimate, while she was not charged with a crime.
Benson, accompanied by homeless individual Robert Stoker, came to the Englewood police department in order to file a complaint on Stoker’s behalf after charges of smoking in an Englewood park against him had been dropped earlier in the day.
Sgt. Dodes responded to Benson’s request to talk to a police officer after Internal Affairs head Ed Disner was unavailable on Wednesday. When questioned about her library ban, Dodes responded that the library had the power to ban individuals from the premises and that the ban she had received earlier in the week was legitimate.
Benson became angered at Dodes as the pair disagreed over the definition of “official government business” that would allow Benson to use the library facilities during her 90-day ban with a police escort. While Benson claimed that “official government business” would be defined as any activity she had planned to do at the library, Dodes disagreed and said that it referred to any activity she had with the government at the library.
When Benson suggested that she be assigned an off-duty police escort for her “many” future appointments at the library, Dodes referred her to Englewood’s off-duty police services and reminded her that it was up to the requestor of the services to pay for those services. Benson then stated that she would not pay for the services and that the bill would need to be paid by the city of Englewood.
YouTuber Frauditor Troll released a video on Wednesday featuring a call he made to the Englewood police department inquiring about Benson’s harassment of a security guard at the Englewood Public Library that sparked her ban.
During his call to the Englewood police dispatcher, he was told that the incident at the library had been investigated by police and the security guard involved in the incident declined to press charges against Benson. The library then banned Benson for 90 days.
Benson still can appeal her ban, which she has not done as of press time. The ban would be lifted during the appeal.
