Jose “Chille” DeCastro alarmed fans during his Friday night infomercial by claiming that he was “screwed” by a California judge and would be paying a $1635 sanction out of his own pocket without help from his fans.
DeCastro was sanctioned on Thursday by Judge H. Jay Ford III in his California Superior Court lawsuit against Kate Peter, Team Skeptic, Daniel Clement, and Michael “Blue Bacon” Pierattini for refusing to attend a deposition.
As part of his narrative that the Judge was biased against him for not having a lawyer, DeCastro stated that the only reason he received sanctions was the lack of representation. Rather than appealing the ruling, DeCastro then announced he would pay the fee entirely out of pocket, without fundraising.
DeCastro, who is notorious for crowd sourcing everything from $20 for a picture from a street photographer to his haircuts, is apparently flush from an influx of cash due to the success of his channel, which is well on the way to 1 million total subscribers in the coming months.
On recent live infomercials, DeCastro has addressed rumors that he buys views and subscribers by showing that he has “organically” earned new subscribers from hundreds his YouTube shorts, which tend to earn $900-$1500 per short before being dropped by YouTube algorithms.
DeCastro’s display of his metrics from various shorts seem to back his story, with some shorts earning him up to 17,000 new viewers in the lifetime of the short. Unfortunately for DeCastro, short viewers have not translated into live viewers as his recent averages for his daily live infomercials have averaged 450 viewers, or .084% of his subscriber base.
This is a developing story.
