Following this week’s status hearing in James “James Freeman” Springer’s (Freeman) lawsuit against New Mexico’s Seventh District Court, Magistrate Judge Jennifer M. Rozzoni set a settlement conference for Tuesday, June 18, 2024.
The order essentially sets deadlines for the June settlement conference starting with the plaintiff’s demand letter to the defense, which is due on May 28, 2024. The defense’s response to that letter is due on June 4, 2024.
After that, both parties must submit individual letters containing a brief summary of their views of the facts in the case along with applicable law and summations of their stance on the case. If either party has video or audio recordings of the incident that spawned the lawsuit, those recordings must be submitted by June 11, 2024.
Freeman is suing to lift an order made by New Mexico’s Seventh District Court system that prevents him from visiting courthouses in the Seventh District without a police escort. Based on the feedback from this week’s previous settlement hearings, it is unlikely that settlement talks will be successful at this time.
