SGV News First and PedoLibreAudits were released from the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department West Valley Detention Center on May 1, 2023.
The men spent the night in the detention center after auditing a church on Sunday resulted in both men’s arrest. Indicating that the police were called due to a weapons report, SGV said he told police on scene that he was exercising his right to worship. The police responded that he could worship how he pleased, but they needed to check him for weapons before taking him into custody.
Police took the men to the Chino, California police station before driving the men to the San Bernadino West Valle Detention Center. SGV claimed he and PedroLibreAudits were held in a holding cell for most of the day before being transferred to inmate housing. SGV complained about the breakfast, indicating that he could only eat an orange out of what was offered to him to eat.
Both men began a fund-raising campaign to raise the remaining $4,300 that they owed to their bail bondsman, who covered their bond without payment. They were originally facing $8,000 for their combined bond, which the bail bondsman was able to have reduced to $5,500. They were able to come up with $1,200 but needed to cover the rest of the funds.
They also were looking for funds in order to fund their legal defense, with SGV claiming that they were going to sue the church involved in the incident for lying in order to have them arrested and the police for conspiracy.
SGV stated that the police arrested them for exercising their rights of freedom of speech. However, both men have been charged with PC182a)(1), a felony and carries up to a year in prison or a fine of up to $10,000 or both. SGV is also charged with PC422(A), which carries a maximum of 1 year in prison and may be charged as a felony or a misdemeanor. It was formerly known as making terroristic threats.
Update: SGV News First and PedoLibreAudits live streamed Monday afternoon to continue their search for bail funds. SGV announced that he was a few thousand dollars short of the $4,300 goal to cover bail for both men with the bail bondsman. The men came to an agreement with the bail bond company in order to pay their remaining balance then spent the rest of the live fund raising in support of their cause.
