Host Dan and Host Becca of the Welsh News Network donned costumes for a charity event Tuesday night to raise money for a Wales animal shelter.
With the hosts dressed up as Steampunk Dan and Harley Quinn respectively, the duo made a plea for help on behalf of a local animal shelter Host Dan has been helping as the UK deals with the ban on American XL bully dogs.
XL bullies were banned at the start of the year in the UK after a man in the West Midlands died last year following an attack by dogs suspected to be XL bullies.
Pet owners in the UK who have American bully XL dogs can no longer sell, give away, abandon, or breed those animals. Those who own the animals in England and Wales after February 1, 2024, are required to have the animals microchipped, covered by insurance and pay a yearly £92.40 fee per animal.
Owners of XL Bullies in Scotland have until July 31, 2024, to apply for an exemption certificate for each animal. Anyone who abandons, rehomes, sells, buys, or transfers ownership of an XL bully may face up to six months in prison and/or a fine up to £5,000.
Shelters within the UK were flooded with American bullies late last year before the ban was imposed. Host Dan helped expand his local shelter’s capacity to house the dogs earlier in the year by teaming up to build an extension to the facility.
All donations during the fundraiser are going to provide one year of housing and care for animals at the shelter.
For those interested in helping, donations can be made during live WNN broadcasts through the streamlink donation system. Put “For the Doggos” in the message field.
