The day before Jose “Chille” DeCastro and Collin “Project Constitution” Campbell may square off in a Maryland court for a hearing over Campbell’s attempt to get a peace order on DeCastro, DeCastro attacked Campbell on his YouTube community page.

DeCastro’s posting features a 14-year-old news article of a Campbell arrest for making a false statement to a police officer after an attempt to buy prescription drugs went badly. According to the article, Campbell reported the dealer to police for robbing him, which he later recanted when confronted by police officers.

Campbell claimed on Sunday that he has served DeCastro’s attorney of record, Michael Mee, with the peace order filed against DeCastro in Maryland last week. According to Campbell, Mee did not acknowledge Campbell’s e-mail. DeCastro, who has a long history of avoiding service in other cases, is not officially expected to attend Monday’s hearing.
Controversy also surrounded Campbell’s *spotfund campaign to raise money either to defend himself from a possible lawsuit against DeCastro or for a retainer to sue DeCastro directly. While DeCastro has threatened to sue Campbell and has belittled Campbell on recent broadcasts of his near-nightly live infomercial, he has yet to go forward with a threatened lawsuit.
YouTubers Irish Demon and Host Dan of the Welsh News Network have loudly criticized Campbell for using links to their videos on the fundraising page without permission, implying that they endorse his legal efforts.
Questions about the cost of the lawsuit have also plagued Campbell’s campaign. The initial $5,000 request to fund the filing of the case and retaining of an attorney as a crowd-sourced endeavor has sparked criticism. Critics have come out against a pro-active lawsuit against DeCastro, as estimates of the costs of such a lawsuit could ultimately run in excess of $100,000, which would be needed to be crowdfunded.
Campbell has also received criticism for including highlights from a recently released copy of a protection order taken by a former girlfriend against DeCastro. Campbell’s lengthy description of the fundraiser includes previous examples of DeCastro’s alleged violent behavior against the ex-girlfriend.
The peace order hearing is scheduled for Monday afternoon in a Maryland court, we will provide updates as they are released from the court.
