Regan Benson negatively addressed the Englewood, Colorado, City Council Monday night, this time accusing the city of being negligent in helping homeless in the city while she single-handedly saved lives in the city.
Benson’s comments came on a night where the public feedback portion of the meeting was packed with a record 15+ members of the public there to address Movement 5280, a homeless advocacy group which bought a church in Englewood and has converted the building into a homeless sanctuary offering services outside of the times outlined in their agreement with the city.
The vast majority of speakers spoke against Movement 5280, claiming that their presence has increased violent crime in the neighborhood, which Englewood police are ill-prepared to deal with, and lowered property values while having a negative impact on the community.
Benson, sitting next to the speaker’s podium, insulted and degraded each speaker she disagreed with to her side chat, calling them “Karens” and claiming they were lying about their experiences, before giving a fiery speech to the council.
The YouTuber accused everyone who had spoke out against Movement 5280 as lying and stated that if they really cared about homelessness, they would join her in watching the near daily court sessions with Judge Joe Jefferson, who sentences homeless people to jail as part of Englewood’s “plan to criminalize homelessness.”
She praised herself for saving the life of Robert, a homeless man she found living on a park bench after Englewood police ticketed him for urinating in public when he could not walk due to a severely frostbitten foot. She then attempted to get the crowd to applaud her twice, to no avail.
Benson then addressed the recent city council study session that proposed changing the rules of the public feedback portion of the council meetings. She reminded the council that since their deal with Denver in which Denver provides Englewood’s fire and rescue services that saves the city $18 million a year, it is her tax dollars as a Denver resident at work in Englewood and she has the same rights as an Englewood resident to address the council.
Following her remarks, Benson returned to her seat and continued to insult speakers in her YouTube channel side chat before leaving the City Council chambers.
She would later update her on-going conflict with the Englewood Public library. Benson claimed that had filed her appeal and was expecting to have a hearing date set by tomorrow and her hearing would be held within a week. The library ban is suspended during the appeal.
In other news, Christopher “Denver Metro Audits” Cordova addressed the Englewood City Council again about public viewing of pornography. Cordova chastised the city council for wanting to restrict the constitutionally protected viewing of pornography before awkwardly attempting to flirt with City Council Member Kim Wright.
Cordova described Wright as “a courageous lioness in a cage with Scar and the Hyenas.” He then promised her his support and told her to stay strong and resist any attempts to sway her vote by the “hyenas.”
The next City Council Meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 1, 2024.
