Activist for the Homeless Regan Benson raged against the city of Denver’s handling of the recent cold snap on Tuesday with a 49-minute-long live stream in which she revealed her emergency Winter funding for her charity, Helping Hands for Dignity Coalition, had been expended by costs incurred over the weekend.
Benson appealed for both money and hand warmers from her viewers as she claimed that housing eight homeless people in motels during the three-day cold spell in the Denver area used the entire $1,400 that she had put aside for her emergency funding.
The activist also claimed that due to her extended homeless outreach during the cold, she had used up her supply of hand warmers and other items to distribute to the homeless. Benson, addressing previous accusations that she rarely engaged in homeless outreach, was fairly active during the weekend in the Denver area, live streaming twice as she distributed essential products to those that she encountered.
As the norm for Benson live streams, she took an extended break from her outreach efforts to update her viewers on the status of individuals she encountered while performing her duties. Benson shared the bad news that homeless brother and sister Shelly and Gino, were still seeking full time housing in the area as Shelly’s attempt for shelter “had to start over” due to her insistence of living with her brother.
Benson updated the on-going situation between the Adams County, Colorado, coroner’s office and Destiny, the daughter of Steve “Cowboy” Olsen, a homeless man who died while in the care of Adams County over the summer.
The activist for the homeless stated that Adams County Coroner Monica Broncucia-Jordan issued a letter to Destiny that contained “insults” and warned Destiny that the e-mail would be the final statement on the death of her father. Benson promised to post the e-mail on the community tab on her YouTube account but has failed to do so as of press time.
