Thursday’s edition of Jose “Chille” DeCastro’s live infomercial started with DeCastro appearing bewildered as he announced the news that the family of Tabitha Smith rejected his offer to hold a fundraiser for the family.
Smith had been killed in mid-February as she was being transported to jail by officer Robert John “RJ” Leonard of the Meigs County Sheriff’s Office. The bodies of Smith and Leonard were later found in the Tennessee River with speculation that Meigs lost control of his vehicle and missed a turn, resulting in the vehicle plunging into the river.
DeCastro immediately pounced on the story, declaring that he wished that Meigs “burned in hell” and starting a fundraiser for Smith’s children, by DeCastro’s account, taking in over $1500 before even making direct contact with the family.
Because of travel plans keeping him in the Washington, D.C., area and then in Los Angeles, DeCastro claimed he could not reach out to the family until Thursday morning, when he reached the mother of Tabitha Smith who said she had researched who he was and refused to have anything to do with him or the fundraiser.
DeCastro was puzzled by Smith’s mother’s decision, then claimed that he began to discredit the family, claiming that he had heard that the family was in denial over Tabitha’s death and still believed that she was alive. The YouTuber offered no proof to his statement, other than he heard it from a friend.
Later in the afternoon, Host Dan of the Welsh News Network shed some light on why Smith’s family may have rejected DeCastro’s offer. He claimed at the start of WNN’s nightly broadcast that he had contacted the family on Tuesday and given them background information on DeCastro, noting that DeCastro had a history of interjecting himself into situations with lost family members and only making the situation worse.
Citing DeCastro’s negative involvement with Laney Hudson’s and Caleb Slay’s families, Host Dan claimed that he simply gave the information and links both to thepublicdocuments.com and reallycoolsite.org to help Smith’s mother make up her mind about DeCastro before he contacted the family.
Following the announcement of the denial by Smith’s family, a triggered DeCastro said he would be in contact with the doners to see if they wanted refunds of the significant funds pledged to the doomed fundraiser.

Good thing a real journalist reached out to the family in time. Why does Jose feel it so necessary to inject himself into these tragedies and situations. Oh, I know, he is the good guy who cares about the family because they were victims of the JBTP. 100% exploitive. Dude cannot read a room, at all. He will keep the cash if it was even raised.
